Mis hermanos= ellos Antonia y tú= ustedes o vosotros Marina= ella You (talking to a professor)= Usted Ana y Julia= ellos Mi madre y yo= nosotros VERBO SER We use the verb ser (to be) to describe people and things. 3 PRESENT TENSE OF AR REGULAR VERBS You already know the infinitive forms in Spanish: ar, -er, -ir. The largest group of verbs end in ar: hablar, esquiar, cantar, When you have a subject who does the action of the verb, you need to conjugate the verbs: - Drop the ar ending, leaving the stem hablar: habl- You add the endings according to the person who does the actions. The verb endings always indicates who is doing the action. yo -o Nosotros -amos nosotras name(s) y yo people y yo tú -as vosotros -áis vosotras name(s) y tú/ people y tú él /ella -a Ud ( you formal) 1 name/ 1 object/ 1 person Ellos/ ellas/ uds -an names/ people/ name(s) y tú name(s) y ud./ name(s) y uds./ VERBO TENER- (TO HAVE) To express possession yo tengo nosotros/as tenemos tú tienes vosotros/as tenéis él/ ella/ ud tiene ellos/ellas/ uds tienen Expressions with tener: Tener hambre- Be hungry Tener sueño- Be tired Tener frío- Be cold Tener sed- Be thirsty Tener miedo- Be afraid Tener calor- Be hot. Estar is an irregular verb because it does not follow the steps of the regular present tense of ar verbs.
