11 ix FA YEARBK F FREST PRDUCTS INTRDUCTIN This is the 48th issue f the FA Yearbk f Frest Prducts. The yearbk cntains annual data n the prductin and trade in frest prducts fr the years and n directin f trade in 993 and 994. The publicatin f the yearbk has been made pssible by the cperatin f gvernments which have supplied mst f the infrmatin in the frm f replies t questinnaires. It has been cmpiled by the Frestry Department f FA in cllabratin with the Ecnmic Cmmissin fr Eurpe (ECE). The tables have been arranged in three parts. The first part cntains tables dealing with the vlume f prductin and the vlume and value f trade. The secnd part cntains tables dealing with the directin f trade. The third part cntains tables shwing the unit value in trade f sme cmmdities. These have been btained by dividing ttal value by ttal vlume traded. The figures fr exprts represent average f..b. values, while thse fr imprts represent average c.i.f. values. The tables in the first part present data fr the 2 years The tables have been arranged s that, fr any cmmdity, the tables shwing data n prductin, imprts and exprts f that cmmdity fllw ne anther. Because the cmmdity subdivisins fr prductin and fr trade statistics differ, the series fr certain cmmdities include nly prductin statistics and fr certain thers nly trade statistics. In general, tables fr rundwd are fllwed by thse fr sawnwd, panel prducts, pulp and paper, in that rder. Within these grupings, tables ttalling all cmmdities in the grup cme first, fllwed by the partial aggregates with their cmpnent cmmdity tables. The directin-f-trade tables, shwn in the secnd part, are based n exprt data. These trade matrices shw all cuntries with a ttal exprt r imprt trade amunting t percent f the ttal. The ttal wrld exprts are identified with an exprting cuntry and an imprting cuntry, r with a ttal fr ther cuntries where the trading partners are nt identified r have ttal trade in the cmmdity f less than percent. Data are reprted fr the latest tw years. The data in this issue have been derived frm data cllected in cmputer-readable frm by the United Natins Statistics ffice. Like previus issues, this vlume includes estimates made by FA and data btained frm surces ther than the fficial replies t questinnair6. In presenting the 2-year series, accunt has been taken f revisins suggested fficially r f new infrmatin frm ther surces. Thus, figures published in earlier issues may have been revised in preparing these series. In certain cases, the data prvided by cuntries are stated in different units r systems f measurement frm thse used in the yearbk. Fr presentatin in the yearbk it has been necessary t cnvert t standard units. The cefficients used fr cnversin t the metric system are shwn n page xvii. It is hped that cuntries will re-examine the estimates and prvide FA with mre accurate figures when these appear wrng. In the list f cmmdity names, the cmmdity aggregates and individual cmmdities are listed in the rder in which they ccur in the yearbk and each is briefly defined. Since the 99 editin f the yearbk, Revisin 3 f the SITC has been adpted. Since the 992 editin tables fr imprts and exprts f sawlgs and veneer lgs, pulpwd and ther industrial rundwd are nt included. In that editin tables were intrduced fr imprts and exprts f industrial rundwd (wd in the rugh) including cniferus species, nn-cn ferus species f trpical rigin and ther nn-cniferus species. Figures are generally runded t the nearest units. When the name f a cuntry is given withut a crrespnding numerical entry, this means that quantities are less than 5 units and are runded t zer.
