2 Your knowledge of Spanish can earn you college credit! You may have learned at home to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish. You may have grown up hearing Spanish and learned the language formally at school. You may have learned Spanish for the first time in a classroom setting. However you ve learned Spanish, your language skills can earn you up to 12 college credits. What is the CLEP Spanish Language examination? The CLEP Spanish Language exam measures your ability to understand written and spoken Spanish. The exam, administered on computer, is approximately 90 minutes long and is comprised of two listening sections and one reading section. The questions require you to demonstrate your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, as well as your ability to comprehend written and spoken Spanish.

3 There are 2,900 colleges and universities that grant credit for successful CLEP scores. Most award 6 or 12 credits for the CLEP Spanish Language exam, depending on the score earned. The exam is scored on a scale of The American Council on Education recommends that colleges grant 6 credits for scores of and 12 credits for scores of 63 and above. CLEP Benefits: Save time. 4 Get Started: Visit 1. Find out if your college accepts CLEP. Use CLEP college search and contact your professors, academic adviser, test center or admission office. 2. Visit the CLEP website to learn more about the exam. 3. Register to take your exam by contacting any of 1,700 CLEP test centers and making an appointment. 4. Start studying. Get official preparation materials and study tips online. 5. Take your CLEP exam!

5 Prepare to succeed with CLEP Spanish Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the contents of at least one Spanish textbook used in courses during the first two years of college Spanish. In addition to studying basic vocabulary, you should understand and be able to apply the grammatical principles that make up the language. To improve your reading comprehension, read passages from textbooks, short magazine and newspaper articles, and other printed or online material. To improve your listening comprehension, seek opportunities to hear the language spoken by native speakers and to converse with native speakers: join organizations with Spanish-speaking members, listen to Spanish-language radio and television broadcasts, and attend Spanish movies. Try the sample test questions and read the exam description provided in the CLEP Official Study Guide. The Study Guide is available from the CLEP Web site or in bookstores. El examen CLEP de español evalúa la habilidad de entender el español escrito y hablado. El examen, que se imparte por computadora, dura aproximadamente 90 minutos y está compuesto de dos secciones de audio y una de lectura. 11 Prepárate para tener éxito en el examen CLEP de español Familiarízate bien con el contenido de por lo menos uno de los libros que se utilizan en los cursos de español en los dos primeros años de universidad. Además de estudiar el vocabulario básico, deberás poder entender y aplicar las reglas gramaticales del idioma. Para mejorar la comprensión de lectura, lee fragmentos de libros, artículos de revistas y periódicos, y otro material impreso o de Internet en español. Para mejorar la comprensión auditiva, busca oportunidades de oír el idioma hablado por personas nativas y de conversar con ellas: participa en organizaciones con miembros hispanohablantes, sintoniza programas de habla hispana de radio o televisión, y anda al cine a ver películas en español. Practica con las preguntas de muestra y lee la descripción del examen que aparece en la guía CLEP Official Study Guide, la cual está disponible en la página web del CLEP o en las librerías. Consulta y guarda para tu uso la muestra gratuita CLEP Sampler de la página web para practicar y familiarizarte con el formato de computadora.
