They celebrate their actual birthday AND their saint s day (the patron for which they were named). On their saint s day, the celebrants attend church and are blessed by a priest. They then have a quiet party with relatives and family friends. Children also celebrate their birth with a large celebration including friends, family, music, food and a piñata. When a Mexican girl celebrates her 15 th birthday, a quinceañera is held in her honor. There is a special mass held and often a lavish party that includes friends, neighbors, and relatives. Typically, girls wear a beautiful gown, have attendants, and prepare months in advance for this special birthday. 47
