In fact, it is totally unique and nothing similar or even close exists in the world. The initiative to organise this Masters deserves the greatest possible compliments and I should like to congratulate all those who had the insight and the vision to organise it. That vision is shared by those who found it worthy of financial support and they similarly must be congratulated. Congratulations should also go to the administrations and governments that have allowed students to participate and were willing to invest in their future and in the future of CITES implementation

26 Surveys were conducted weekly and a final survey in each edition of the Master. Participants rated the course as excellent regarding to the level of formation obtained; the organization of the teaching and the quality of the Lecturers; the facilities and services at the University and the quality of the interpretation (English and Spanish) during the course. Most people who have received this course are currently working in: government agencies in charge of the implementation of international conventions; CITES Secretariat (2 persons in charge of Flora and Fauna in the Scientific Unit); CITES Standing Committee; CITES Animals Committee; CITES Plants Committee; IGOs; NGOs; universities or other environmental institutions that carry out the responsibility for designing national environmental policies and coordinate the implementation of multilateral international treaties. It is also noted that dozens of inspectors from the CITES Management Authority of Spain have taken, along the 9 editions, specific sections for improving their training.

45 This programme of studies offers a total of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits; 48 for class attendance, through the virtual platform and tutored work, and 12 for preparing the final Master s thesis (Total: 1500 hours) The course is structured as follows: A. Class Stage: (attendance required) in class sessions divided into eleven sections B. Online Study Stage: through the virtual platform set up by the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA), involving further work on the subject matter covered in the 12 sections C. Research Stage: (presence not required) in which students will perform research tasks in preparation for their Master s thesis
46 On-campus credits: Classes will be held at the Antonio Machado Site of the International University of Andalusia from Monday to Friday, in morning and afternoon sessions. Monitoring and assessment will consist of weekly individual and/or group tests on the contents covered. Virtual credits: Individual and/or group tests will be given on the contents covered through the Virtual Platform of the International University of Andalusia.
47 * Online Study Stage This will reinforce the material taught in the class sections, through the UNIA virtual platform. Individual and/or group tests will be given on the contents covered.
48 Research period: 12 credits will be given for supervised research activities leading to the presentation of a research project. Deadline for presentation: March 2011
