Entidad Colaboradora: ICAI Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. RESUMEN DEL PROYECTO Este proyecto aparece como una innovación en el campo de la inyección. Consiste en el diseño de un molde de inyección para plástico, en concreto un molde para la máquina BABYPLAST 6/10p que se encuentra en la planta baja del ICAI, en el laboratorio de fabricación. A partir de los moldes y la máquina que se han observado, se ha conseguido diseñar un molde mixto producido con componentes de acero y componentes de plástico, por eso tratamos este proyecto como innovador. Toda esta idea aparece como una posible solución a los grandes costes que provoca este proceso. La manipulación del plástico es mucho más barata que la del acero. La idea del proyecto es fundamentalmente para favorecer a las empresas de Marketing. Se quiere generar un molde más económico y que se produzca más rápido que los tradicionales de acero. Las tiradas de productos son mucho más bajas y debido a que no se ha podido experimentar con alguno, no es posible decir cuántos ciclos de inyección es capaz de soportar el termoplástico que se elija para fabricar el molde. En particular, la pieza que se ha diseñado de prueba es el logo de la marca de ropa HUMBLE, con la idea de realizar unos llaveros de propaganda para la marca.

Consiste en el diseño de un molde de inyección para plástico, en concreto un molde para la máquina BABYPLAST 6/10p que se encuentra en la planta baja del ICAI, en el laboratorio de fabricación.

2 La primera tarea importante ha sido la de investigar tipos de termoplásticos con los que fuera posible la inyección. Gracias a la información obtenida de STRATASYS, compañía que se dedica exclusivamente al sector del prototipado rápido y que es líder en el mismo, la decisión de escoger el DIGITAL ABS como componente fundamental en la fabricación de las placas del molde no ha sido extremadamente complicada. Más adelante, durante el desarrollo y diseño del molde, surgió la posibilidad de generar un molde que fuera desechable, para ello se diseñó una placa fija exterior que se fabricaría de acero para hacer el papel de soporte de unas placas interiores desechables de plástico. El sistema viene explicado en la memoria correctamente. Con el diseño de los componentes en SOLIDEDGE y sus correspondientes conjuntos, se procede al estudio de materiales a utilizar en el proceso. Primera complicación, Qué material elegir como plástico a inyectar? Se hizo un análisis profundo de varios de ellos, en la memoria se muestra el Polipropileno, el Polietileno y el Poliestireno, y se decide que como la finalidad del producto es simplemente de propaganda utilizar el más económico: el Poliestireno. El siguiente paso es el estudio del acero a utilizar para los componentes de este material, y tras el análisis la idea es la de utilizar un acero pretemplado P20 por ser también el más económico. Quizás, algún componente necesite tratados de templado y revenido como, por ejemplo, la placa fija del molde. Posteriormente en la memoria también se argumenta el proceso de fabricación que deben llevarse a cabo para producir los siguientes componentes: columnas guía, las agujas expulsoras, las columnas separadores, las guías de extracción, la placa de apriete, la placa de expulsión y la placa fija exterior. Los tornillos Allen que se utilizarán se compran directamente porque están normalizados bajo la norma DIN 912.

3 En la memoria se explica correctamente el funcionamiento de la BABYPLAST 6/10p y el proceso de un ciclo de inyección. Se hace un informe de la correcta colocación del molde en la máquina y se explican las correspondientes medidas que se han de tomar para que no se produzcan errores en su alineación. Por último, existe un resumen de los posibles errores de producción que pueden surgir, sus motivos y soluciones. El proyecto necesita de cálculos que desembocan en parámetros de fuerza de apriete, presión, temperatura y tiempos de inyección. Puede que sea la parte más numérica del proyecto, pero una vez más se insiste en que no han podido ser verificados y todo lo que se muestra en la memoria es teórico. Para finalizar, se ha tenido que hacer un presupuesto del mismo para confirmar la viabilidad del proyecto. Con un análisis de costes de diseño, material, fabricación, tratamientos térmicos, montaje y la contratación de una empresa externa que fabrica los componentes de plástico se llega a un presupuesto total de 3.544,50. Sobre el pliego de condiciones solamente cabe comentar que en él está reflejada toda la normativa que sigue este proyecto y las responsabilidades que se aceptan al realizarse.

Por último, existe un resumen de los posibles errores de producción que pueden surgir, sus motivos y soluciones.

Collaborating Organization: ICAI Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. PROJECT SUMMARY This Project is innovatory in the field of injection. It is the design of an injection mold for plastic parts, particulary a mold for the BABYPLAST 6/10p that it is located on the ground floor of ICAI, in the manufacturing laboratory. From the molds and machines that we could study in the University, we managed to design a mixed mold with both, plastic and steel components. That is the reason we treat this Project as innovation. This whole idea came because of the high costs that metal manipulation caused. It is true and obvious that plastic treatment is much cheaper than steel. The idea of this Project is fundamentally to support Marketing companies and encourage them to use more advertising every day. We want to generate an economic injection mold that can be produced in a few days, being able to avoid using steel molds that are much slower to produced. The lot number will decrease with this technology but we are not certain of how many injection cicles will this kind of mold bear because we did not experimented with it. In particular, the part we have designed as trial is the clothing brand HUMBLE logo, with the expectation of making some keychains for them.

6 The first task we had to face was the investigation of all posible thermoplastic that could be used to inject high temperature plastic. Thanks to the reliable information obtained form STRATASYS, company that is dedicated exclusively to 3D printers technology and leader in the sector, the decision of choosing DIGITAL ABS as the main compound in the injection molds fabrication was not really hard. Later on, during the design and development of our injection mold, the possibility of creating our asset disposable, for the idea we design a fixed outter plate made of steel to support the role of a disposable plastic inner plates. The complex system is properly explained in the memory. With all the parts and their assemblies designed by computer program SOLIDEDGE, the next task is to look up for the bests compounds to use in yhe injection process. First complication, which thermoplastic are we going to use for the injection? We did a large investigation on compounds to finally decide that what we are looking for here is the cheapest one: Polystyrene. This Project does not need good mechanical properties because the purpose of the product is merchandising. Next step was to do the same investigation but with a different compound type: Steel. After analyzing the possibilities, the idea to use a P20 pre-hardened steel for being too cheap was clear. Perhaps, some parts will need quenching and tempering treatment, for example, the fixed outter plate. Subsequently in the memory, manufacturing process to be carried out to produce the following components are also carefully explained: Guide columns, the ejector needles, separating columns, extraction guides, the pressure plate, the ejector plate and the fixed outter plate. The Allen screws to be used are purchased directly because they are normalized according to DIN 912. We had to study and explain the operation of the BABYPLAST 6 / 10p and the process of an injection cycle. A report by the correct positioning of the mold in the

It may be the numerical part of the project, but again we insist that the data could not be verified and everything shown in the memory is theoretical. Finally, it has been necessary to prepare a budget to confirm the viability of the project. With a cost analysis of design, material, manufacturing, heat treatment, assembly and hiring an outside company that manufactures plastic components we reach a total budget of 3, On the specification section we did some research on what was the regulations the project must follow and what were the responsabilities that we could face.
