Psalm72: 1-2 Second Sunday of Advent John the Baptist prepares the way of the Lord and does it with vigor. He announces an imminent change that calls for profound conversion. The whole of Judea gathers around the Prophet who has been chosen to make the path straight for the coming of the Messiah. In the crowd, he sees two groups: the Pharisees and the Sadducees, who do not pass unnoticed because they represent the Jewish religious authority. Often they act only in their own interests, ignoring the weak and insignificant. They use their knowledge of the Law to justify their deeds and a style of living that is not always in accordance with the will of God. The Prophet invites them to have a change of heart by accepting the Lord and allowing him to guide them in their lives. Because of our faith, we may already have a taste of the happiness that comes as a result of the conversion of the heart and the welcoming of the Lord into our hearts. Todo Judea se reúne a su alrededor quien prepara el camino para la llegada del Mesías. El es rodeado por dos grupos: los Fariseos y los Saduceos que eran los representantes de las autoridades de los Judíos. Muchas veces actuaban solo por sus propios intereses e ignoraban a los débiles e insignificantes. Ellos usaban todo su poder para justificar la manera en que Vivian que no era siempre lo que Dios deseaba. El profeta los invita a cambiar sus vidas y aceptar a Dios. Por medio de nuestra fe podemos tener la felicidad que viene con la conversión de nuestros corazones cuando aceptamos a Dios. Toute la Judée se rassemble autour du prophète qui sera le dernier à aplanir la route pour la venue du Messie. Jean remarque dans la foule deux groupes: les pharisiens et les sadducéens qui ne passent pas inaperçus, car ils forment l autorité religieuse juive. Souvent ils n agissent que dans leur propre intérêt délaissant les faibles et ignorant les petits. Ils utilisent leur connaissance de la Loi afin de justifier des gestes et une façon de vivre qui ne sont pas toujours en conformité avec la volonté de Dieu. Le prophète Jean invite à changer les cœurs. Changer pour le vrai, c est accepter que le Seigneur fasse du neuf avec nous et lui laisser l occasion d agir au cœur de ce que nous vivons. Déjà, par notre foi, nous pouvons gouter au bonheur qu apportent la conversion du cœur, l accueil du Seigneur dans notre vie. John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! It was said of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: A voice of one crying out in the desert Prepare the way of the Lord, Make straight his paths.

3 THE POOR HAVE MUCH TO TEACH US In his first extensive piece of writing as Pope, Pope Francis lays out a vision of the Catholic Church dedicated to focusing on society s poor and most vulnerable, including the aged and the unborn. The Church s message, he writes in the 50,000word document, has to concentrate on the essentials, on what is most beautiful, most grand, most appealing and at the same time most necessary. The poor, he writes, have much to teach us. We are called to find Christ in them, to lend our voices to their causes, but also to be their friends, to listen to them, to speak for them and to embrace the mysterious wisdom which God wishes to share with us through them. We have to part now, aware of the love that unites us. The things that are on the surface are nothing, what is deep is the Real. We are creatures of love. Let us therefore join hands. I ask you to concentrate on the love that is in you, that is in us all. Oh, God, you have taught us that if we are open to one another, You dwell in us. Help us to preserve this openness and to fight for it with all our hearts. Help us to realize that there can be no understanding where there is rejection. Oh God, in accepting one another wholeheartedly, completely, we accept You and we thank You and we love You with our whole being. Let us be bound together with love as we go our diverse ways, united in this one spirit which makes You present in the world, and which makes You witness to the ultimate reality that is love.
