1 Prepositions of place Preposiciones de lugar por Blanca Rosa González En ingles existen varias preposiciones para referirse a un lugar e introducción de objetos. In English language there are many prepositions to refer a place and Introducing Objects. En esta lectura identificarás las principales. On = Sobre At = Junto a In = Dentro Now you will identify the main prepositions of place. On = Sobre At = Junto a In = Dentro On (sobre, en ) On es una de las preposiciones de lugar más utilizadas, pero dependiendo del contexto en el que se utilice, puede interpretarse de distintas maneras. Para indicar la ubicación de algún objeto sobre algún otro; se utiliza comúnmente para relacionar a una persona con una superficie, por ejemplo el transporte. sobre on a table on a wall on th ceiling on the first floor en on a bus on a train on an airplane Tabla 1. 3 Under (abajo, debajo ) Esta preposición indica que un objeto está localizado abajo o debajo de otro: Under the table Under a tree Ejemplos (Examples): The dog is under the table El perro esta debajo de la mesa. Figura 7 The children are standing under the tree Los niños están parados abajo del árbol. Figura 8 She is wearing a blouse under her coat Ella lleva puesta una blusa debajo de su abrigo. Figura 9 3
4 Next to (a un lado de ) Se utiliza para indicar que una cosa está a un lado de otra. The window is next to the door La ventana esta a un lado de la puerta Between (entre ) Se utiliza para indicar que una cosa se encuentra entre otras dos. The ham is between the bread En un sándwich, el jamón se encuentra entre el pan. In front of (en frente de ) Se utiliza cuando se quiere indicar que algo está frente a otra cosa. There are 3 men in front of the bank. Ahí hay 3 hombres en frente del banco. Behind (atrás de ) Se utiliza para indicar que algo está detrás o atrás de otra cosa. The boy is walking behind his mother. El niño está caminando atrás de su mamá. In the middle (en el centro de ) Se utiliza para indicar que algo está ubicado en el centro respecto de otros objetos. The fountain is in the middle of the garden. La fuente esta en el centro del jardín. 4
5 Observa que en la figura 1, cada pelota tiene una letra, la cual se utilizará para formar enunciados que describan su posición de una respecto a otra o en dado caso a todas. A is next to B (A está junto de B) B is between A and C (B está entre A y C) D is in front of B (D está enfrente de B) E is behind B (E está atrás de B) also (también) B is in the middle (of the grup) (B está en el centro) Figura 10. Next to/ between / in front of / behind in the middle (Murphy, 1990) Above (por arriba de ) Se utiliza para indicar que algo está por arriba de otra cosa. The airplane is above the clouds.
