Childhood memories, adolescent memories, memories of our family, our oldest friends, even some people we only met once, can prove the old saying that God gave us memories that we might have roses in December. God feeding the hungry Chosen People in the desert is a cherished memory in the Jewish tradition, bringing to mind the God who brought them to freedom from slavery in Egypt; Moses calls the people to remember all that God did in their years in the desert. Paul is calling the Christians to remember the Eucharistic meal, how it allows them to participate in the Blood and Body of Christ, and unites them in one body. Most of all Jesus calls us to remember his words, I am the living bread that came down from heaven, and to know him as the bread that will bring eternal life, indeed, that brings it even now. When we do Eucharist in his memory, his saving death and resurrection are made present under the signs of bread broken and wine poured out for us. What does being in communion with Jesus mean to you? Recuerdos de la infancia, recuerdos de la adolescencia, recuerdos de nuestra familia, nuestros viejos amigos, e incluso personas que sólo conocimos una vez, pueden comprobar el viejo dicho en ingles, de que Dios nos dio recuerdos para que tengamos rosas en diciembre. Un recuerdo muy querido en la tradición Judía, es el de Dios alimentando al Pueblo Elegido en el desierto, recordando al Dios que los libero de la esclavitud en Egipto; Moisés llama a la gente a recordar todo lo que Dios hizo por ellos en sus años en el desierto. Pablo llama a los cristianos a recordar el banquete Eucarístico, cual les permite participar en la Sangre y el Cuerpo de Cristo, y los une en un solo cuerpo. La mayor parte de todo lo que Jesús nos llama a recordar son sus palabras: "Yo soy el pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo", y reconocerlo como el pan que traerá la vida eterna, en efecto, que nos la da ahora. Cuando "hacemos" la Eucaristía en su memoria, su muerte redentora y resurrección se hacen presentes en el pan partido y vino ofrecido para nosotros. You should have received your July/August packet in the mail this past week. Our new offertory envelopes will be for offertory only. The Food Pantry envelopes are for a monthly donation, and you may place the envelope in the collection basket at any time during the month. The parish has made a commitment to donate 5% of your offertory contributions to 4 local charities: Shepherd s Hope, GROWS Literacy Council, Apopka Family Learning Center and Loaves & Fishes. These organizations are doing great work in the community and provide assistance to many of our parishioners. More information about each of these charities will be coming later this summer. As always, thank you for your generous support of St. Francis of Assisi s offertory and community outreach efforts. JMJ COLLECTION During the weekend of June 28 & 29, representatives from the JMJ Pregnancy Center will be set up in front of the church and will be available to speak to about their services. Also, they will be handing out baby bottles to those who would like to help support their ministry, by filling the bottles with a donation of spare change, and returning the bottles at any of the Masses the weekend of July 12 & 13. TRAVELING THIS SUMMER? If you are traveling out of town this summer, don t forget to attend Mass. Visit to find the nearest Catholic Church to your destination. CAMBIO EN LOS SOBRES DE OFERTORIO Desde hace unas semanas, hemos estado hablando de un cambio en nuestros paquetes de sobres. Debería haber recibido su paquete de julio/agosto en el correo la semana pasada. Nuestros nuevos sobres de ofrenda serán sólo para ofertorio. Los sobres Food Pantry son para una donación mensual, y usted puede colocar el sobre en la canasta de la colecta en cualquier momento durante el mes. La parroquia se ha comprometido a donar el 5% de sus contribuciones de ofertorio a 4 organizaciones benéficas locales: Shepherd s Hope, GROWS Literacy Council, Apopka Family Learning Center y Loaves & Fishes. 4 P A G E 4 J U N E 2 2, VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2014 ESCUELA BIBLICA DE VERANO Our Totally Catholic Summer Catechesis Program (VBS) was a great success! We had 115 children participate in this week full of Bible adventures through crafts, drama, songs, food, and games with the help of their buddies Axl, Milton, Fern, Iggy, and Shred. It was truly a one of a kind adventure. A special thank you to Maribel Hill and Donna Campbell, VBS Coordinators, and the whole zoo crew. Their dedication, love for children, time, talent, and treasure is appreciated by all. Our most sincere gratitude also goes to all our parishioners who contributed to the success of our Weird Animals program through their donations. We truly appreciate your gift. Nuestro Programa Totalmente Católico de Catequesis de Verano (VBS) fue un gran éxito!
