3 Unpacking Your Time Guardian In addition to this guide, your Time Guardian should include the following: Data Collection Terminal 50 of Communications Cable 25-Pin to 9-Pin Adapter Time Guardian Software CD (50) Employee Badges (2) Terminal Keys RJ-11 to 9-pin Communications Adapter Note: The standard versions of the Time Guardian, Index No. s A105, A120, and A122 (Mag-stripe) or A106, A121, and A123 (Barcode) are intended for use as a stand-alone unit with the length of cable provided. Greater lengths require an optional RS-485 Kit. Multiterminal applications require a standard (Master) terminal (Index No. s A105, A106, A120, A121, A122, and A123) with the corresponding Slave terminals (Index No. s A107, A108, A124, A125, A126, and A127) of the same reader type, and an RS-485 Kit. 4 Dip Switches The Dip Switches on the back panel of the terminal set the operating parameters of the terminal such as communications and reader type. These switches are factory set for use with the standard packages of the Time Guardian. Terminals used in conjunction with an RS-485 or Multiple Clock Kit must have the communications settings (Switches 1,2 and 3,4) changed from RS-232C to RS-485. The table below describes the functionality of each Dip Switch. Warning! Only one communication type can be in use at one time. The Time Guardian cannot function as an RS-232C/RS-485 converter. Damage might occur to the unit if both communication types are set to ON at the same time. Page Amano Cincinnati, Inc.

5 Mounting Location Warning! Before selecting a mounting location for your Time Guardian, you must consider the following: the mounting surface and hardware must be able to support the unit s weight, 6 lbs. ( kg). the area must be within the specified operating temperature range. close proximity to a power source or wall outlet. the area or wall can accommodate signal and/or power conduits. Once a mounting location has been chosen, perform the following: 1. Insert the key into the keyhole, turn clockwise, and remove the back plate as shown. Set the terminal face up on a flat surface. Do not remove the key. 2. Using the back plate as a template, mark the location of the upper mounting hole on the wall. 3. Install a screw or anchor at the mark and hang the back plate from the top mounting hole and level it. 4. Mark the location of the bottom hole, and the cutout for power/communications (if applicable). 5. Install another screw or anchor for the bottom mounting hole and secure the back plate to the wall. 6 Relay Circuits Warning! All connections to the relay contacts must be Class 2 wiring with a maximum of 30 VDC, 2A. Your Time Guardian is equipped with two relay contacts, NORMALLY OPEN (NO) and NORMALLY CLOSED (NC) that can be used to control external equipment such as a bell or buzzer. They are located on the terminal block on the back panel of the Time Guardian. All connections to the relay contacts must be Class 2 wiring with a maximum of 30 VDC, 2A. Connections to the relay contacts are made as follows: A typical wiring diagram for a bell circuit is shown below: Page Amano Cincinnati, Inc.

7 Communications Connections between your Time Guardian Host PC and terminal(s) are based upon your application. The standard versions of the Time Guardian, Index No. s A105, A120, and A122 (Mag-stripe) or A106, A121, and A123 (Barcode) are intended for use as a stand-alone terminal connected to a Host PC with the length of cable provided. To do so, connect one end of the Communications Cable to the RJ-11 jack on the back panel of the terminal and the other end of the cable to an available Com Port of your PC using the Communications Adapter. If the COM Port of your PC is 25-pin, you must use the 25-pin to 9-pin adapter provided. For distances of greater than 50ft, an optional RS-485 Kit is required. For this application, the DIP Switch settings on the terminal must be set as shown. The terminal settings and connections between the terminal and PC are as follows: Amano Cincinnati, Inc Page 5

8 Multi-terminal applications require an optional RS-485 Kit and Multiple (Slave) Clock Kits (Index No. s A107, A108, A124, A125, A126, and A127) used in conjunction with a stand-alone (Master) terminal (Index No. s A105, A106, A120, A121, A122, and A123) of the same reader type. For this type of application, Dip Switch #5 of the last terminal must be set to ON for all the terminals to properly communicate with the Host PC. The terminal settings and connections between the PC and terminals for this application are as follows: * The maximum number of terminals is dependent upon the distance and the quality of cabling used. It is recommended that Beldon Low Voltage Computer Cable, P/N 9841 or equivalent be used for this application. Warning! Some installations may require that the wiring be transferred to existing junction boxes than those provided with the Multiple Clock Kit. Please note that terminal #3 (Shield) is disconnected from the internal RJ-11 receptacle of the junction box provided. Page Amano Cincinnati, Inc.

9 Wall Mounting and Initialization Once connections have been made the terminal can be mounted and initialized. To do so perform the following: 1. Hold the terminal face down, and pull and remove the black paper strip. 2. Re-install the terminal on the back plate by aligning the pins on the back plate with the two tear drop holes and the center of the rectangular cutout on the rear panel. Slide the unit upward until it locks in place and secure it in place by turning the key clockwise. 3. Plug in the AC Power Adapter into an outlet. 10 Note: This display cycle will only occur during the initial power up after the black strip has been removed. If it occurs at any other time, the memory backup battery must be replaced. If your Time Guardian fails to follow the above display cycle, please refer to the Troubleshooting Guide included on the Time Guardian Software CD or on the next page Note: If the black strip has been previously removed and AC power is reapplied to the terminal, the display cycle is as follows: Note: If your Time Guardian fails to power up, please refer to the Troubleshooting Guide included on the Time Guardian Software CD or on the following page. 4. Once the default time is displayed, swipe a badge. 5. Please insert the Time Guardian Software CD into the CD-ROM drive of your PC to install the software. Page Amano Cincinnati, Inc.

15 Nota: Esta verificación ocurre únicamente durante la aplicación de corriente inicial después de haberse removido la cinta de papel negra. De ocurrir en cualquier otro momento, la batería de respaldo debe reemplazarse. Si el terminal falla al seguir la prueba anterior, consultar la Guía para analizar problemas que se encuentra en el CD o en la página siguiente. 16 Instalar en la Pared e Inicializar Una vez hecho el cableado, el reloj puede montarse y ser inicializado. Para ésto, hecer lo siguiente: 1. Mantener el reloj hacia abajo, halar y remover la cinta de papel negra. 2. Re-instalar el reloj en la covertura posterior alineando los agujeros. Deslizar la unidad hasta que cierre y esté asegurada jirando las llaves en el sentido de las agujas del reloj. 3. Conectar el adaptador de AC al enchufe de la pared. 17 Donde se requiera múltiples unidades debe utilizarse el dispositivo opcional RS-485 con el reloj Esclavo A107, A124 y A126 o A108, A125 y A127 usado en combinación con el reloj Maestro A105, A120 y A122 o A106, A121 y A123 que utilize el mismo tipo de cabezal lector. Para éste tipo de conexión, el Switch #5 en el último terminal debe estar fijado a ON para que los demás terminales se comuniquen debidamente con el PC. La configuración y conexiones entre el PC y los relojes se hacen de la siguiente manera: * El máximo número de terminales depende en la distancia y calidad del cable a utilizarse. Se recomienda usar alambre para computador Beldon de Bajo Voltage o un equivalente. Aviso! Es posible que algunas instalaciones requieran que otro cable, (no el que se incluye en éste paquete), sea transferido a existentes cajas de conexiones. Favor toma nota que el alambre #3 (protector) esté desconectado del enchufe interno RJ-11 de la caja. Amano Cincinnati, Inc. (714) Página 6

18 Comunicación Conexión entre el computador y los terminales se obtiene de acuerdo a la aplicación. Los terminales A105, A120 y A122 (banda magnética) o el A106, A121 y A123 (Código de barra) deben usarse como unidades individuales conectadas al computador utilizando el tamaño de cable proveído. Para hacerlo, conectar un extremo del cable al puerto serial del PC, utilizando el adaptador. Si el puerto serial tiene un conectador de 25DB, se debe utilizar el adaptador 25 a 9DB incluído. Para distancias más allá de 50 piés, debe utilizarse el dispositivo opcional RS-485. En ésta aplicación, la configuración del Switch en el terminal debe hacerse de la siguiente manera: Amano Cincinnati, Inc. (714) Página 5

19 Circuito del Relay Aviso! Todas las conexiones a los contactos del relay deben utilizar alambre Clase 2 con un máximo de 30 VDC, 2A. El terminal viene equipado con dos contactos, NORMALMENTE ABIERTO (NO) y NORMALMENTE CERRADO (NC) los cuales pueden ser utilizados para controlar equipo externo, como: campanas o timbres. E stán ubicados en el bloque del panel posterior del reloj. 20 Sitio para Instalar Aviso! Recomendamos considerar lo siguiente, antes de seleccionar el sitio para montar el terminal: La superficie debe soportar el peso de la unidad: 6 libras. ( kg). El área debe estar dentro del especificado ambiente operativo. El reloj debe estar en la proximidad de un toma-corriente. La pared debe acomodar señal y/o alambrado en conducto. Una vez seleccionado el sitio, hacer lo siguiente: 1. Colocar la llave en su debido lugar, girar en el sentido de las agujas del reloj y remover la covertura posterior, tal y como se muestra. Colocar el terminal en una superficie plana. Aún, no remover la llave. 2. Utilizando la covertura posterior como modelo, marcar el agujero superior en la pared. 3. Instalar un tornillo o sujetador en la marca e instalar la covertura posterior en el agujero y nivelarlo. 4. Marcar el agujero inferior y orificio de acceso para comunicación y corriente, (si es aplicable). 5. Instalar el segundo tornillo o sujetador en el agujero inferior y montar la covertura a la pared. 21 Switches de Configuración Los switches ubicados en la parte posterior del terminal fijan los parámetros de operación del terminal, tales como: comunicación y tipo de lector. Estos switches han sido pre-configurados en fábrica para operar con el equipo standard de Time Guardian. Terminales que se operan en combinación con el dispositivo RS-485 o con múltiples relojes deben cambiar su configuración de RS-232 a RS-485 en los switches 1,2, 3 y 4. La siguiente tabla describe la funcionalidad de cada Switch. Aviso! Unicamente un tipo de comunicación puede estar en uso a la vez. El Time Guardian no puede funcionar como un convertidor RS-232/RS-485. Daño a la unidad puede ocurrir si ambos tipos de comunicación han sido fijados a ON a la misma vez. Amano Cincinnati, Inc. 22 Como desempacar el Time Guardian Además de ésta guía, el empaque debe incluír lo siguiente: Terminal para colectar datos Cable de comunicación de 50 Adaptador de 25 a 9-DB CD con Software (50) Tarjetas de Empleado (2) Llaves para el Terminal Conectador para comunicación RJ-11 a 9-DB Nota: Los terminales A105, A120 y A122 (banda magnética) o el A106, A121 y A123 (Código de barra) deben emplearse como unidades individuales utilizando el tamaño de cable proveído. Distancias más largas requieren un dispositivo opcional RS-485. Donde se requiera múltiples unidades debe utilizarse el reloj Maestro A105, A120 y A122 o A106, A121 y A123 con su correspondiente terminal esclavo: A107, A124 y A126 o A108, A125 y A127 que utilize el mismo tipo de cabezal lector y adaptador RS-485.
