All Catholics are called to make the season holy by prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving --- because our inner houses (our families and personal souls) need purification, and the whole house of the Church needs conversion as well. Please take some moments between now and Wednesday to think of concrete ways you can renew yourself... and follow through on them for these next weeks. Lent began as a retreat we make for and with our catechumens and candidates seeking baptism, confirmation and/or holy communion on Holy Saturday (the night before Easter). They need our spiritual support! See you at church for the official beginning of Lent --- the ceremony of Ashes. Todos los católicos son llamados a hacer la temporada santa de oración, sacrificio y caridad -- porque nuestras casas interiores (nuestras familias y almas personales) necesitan la purificación, y la casa entera de nuestra Iglesia necesita la conversión también. If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Lori Panziera at or at lori@getonthebus.us or visit our website at Other Info SEBASTIAN BALCH MEMORIAL MURAL - The ACFA (Alisal Center for the Fine Arts); the Balch family; Janet Sullivan of Play & Learn Daycare; muralists from ACFA under the direction of noted artist and teacher Jose Ortiz; and George and Mimi Niesen are collaborating on a Sebastian Balch Memorial mural. With the help of the Salinas community, we have the opportunity to create a beautiful, inspiring, heartfelt and appropriate tribute to Sebastian Balch, who was killed by a drunk driver on August 9, 2009, and was four years old. The mural can also provide a life-affirming statement to the community regarding opportunities and responsibilities. We hope the media will cover the mural development process as well as the finished project and its message. Contributors to the project who provide addresses will receive the preliminary design for the mural. At this time, we would appreciate suggestions, comments and feedback about the project. Project supporters will also receive the final sketch before the mural is painted and later on photos of the completed mural. They will also be invited to the unveiling. THANK YOU! - The people of the Diocese are always charitable when there is a human need, such as the devastation left since the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. You have responded to the cries of your brothers and sisters. To date our diocese has collected over $185,000. These monies will be used to provide food, shelter, medical supplies, and in the months to come, will help rebuild the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. We ask you to continue to support and pray for the people of Haiti and all who are helping in the relief efforts. AMA (ANNUAL MINISTRIES APPEAL) PLEDGE WEEKEND - The weekend of February 20 & 21 you are prayerfully invited to make a pledge to the bishop s annual appeal. Our goal to the diocese is $41,200, and all surplus funds pledged will be returned to the parish. Registered parishioners will be receiving Fr. Surplus funds over our diocesan goal will be used to paint the parish hall interiors and re-do its bathrooms, increase our emergency charity fund, and to further decrease our Cislini Youth Center debt.
