1 Dear KIPP Heritage Families, Thank you to all of our families who attended Back to School Night this week! We enjoyed seeing you all and loved being able to share our classrooms and campus with you. If you were unable to attend but would still like materials from the event, please stop by our main office. Please see below for announcements and reminders. Also, please note: KIPPsters are required to bring back the bottom receipt of this sheet to show that a family member has read this bulletin. This is to ensure that KIPPsters are practicing responsibility and also keeping all of our families updated about important school news and events. Students who do not return the bottom of this sheet must attend Homework Club the following day. KIPP 101 Day Saturday, September 12 th Please be sure to attend on Saturday, September 12 th from 9:00AM-11:00AM. This is a mandatory session in which we will share information about our school, major assessments for the year, and what families can do to support your children at home and at school. Please note that only adults should attend the KIPP101 sessions, and at least one adult from each family is required to attend. From 11:00-12:00PM, there will be an optional session about College Savings Accounts. Uniform Reminders As the weather gets cooler, students can wear undershirts or leggings/tights underneath their regular uniform. Please note that undershirts and leggings/tights must be plain white, gray, or black. If students choose to wear leggings or tights, the skirt/jumper/shorts must still be knee-length. Inside the classroom, students must only wear a KIPP cardigan or polo shirt. Non- KIPP sweatshirts or jackets are not permitted inside the classroom. Water Bottles and Snacks Students are strongly encouraged to bring healthy snacks to eat during recess and also to bring reusable water bottles (so they are less likely to lose them). We know that both healthy snacks and readily having water throughout the day will help our students be healthier and more focused. Fall Clubs Starting September 29 th We will soon begin advertising our Monday Clubs to KIPPsters! All KIPPsters are invited to participate in our fall clubs, which will take place every Monday from 4:00-5:00PM through January. These clubs are meant to be an enrichment program that supplements students learning in their classes. KIPPsters will be required to fill out an application to rank their club choices, and we will collect and read their applications to determine which club they will be part of. Again, we encourage full participation and expect that once students commit to a club, they attend every Monday. Students who participate in the CORAL afterschool program can also participate in Monday Clubs. CORAL Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly frequent that some parents are picking up their children late from the CORAL After School program. May we remind you that CORAL ends at 6:00 PM daily and you should be at school no later than this time to pick up your child. Thank you for your support! 2 Dear KIPP Heritage Families, One of the great joys of my job is working with our KIPPsters and families. I am so deeply grateful to be entrusted with helping your children to reach their full potential. Each year, I love getting to know our new students and families, while also deepening my relationships with those who are returning. I have also developed a profound appreciation of the role you play as parents and honor the love, hope, and aspirations that you have for your children. I am hopeful that these lessons will extend into my own parenting, and I delighted to announce that my husband and I are expecting a child this coming February! With this transition in mind, I have been working with our team to plan for a smooth transition during the period of time when I will be away on family leave. Barring any complications, it is my intention to serve as Principal until early February and return in mid-may. I will miss every one of our KIPPsters while I am away on family leave, but trust that they will continue to thrive under the guidance of our talented team. In my absence, Ms. Melissa Ulloa will serve as KIPP Heritage Academy s Interim Principal. As many of you know, Ms. Ulloa currently serves as our Assistant Principal. She is excited to step in as the Interim Principal to support the vision for our school and continue partnering with all of you to enable the success of our students. I am confident that our students are in excellent hands, and will continue to be throughout the year. As the date for my family leave approaches, we will communicate any updates in the family bulletin. If you have any questions, please let me know. Disfrutamos ver a todos y poder compartir nuestros salones y campus con ustedes. Si no pudieron asistir pero quiere los materiales del evento, por favor pase por nuestra oficina principal. Recordatorio de Uniforme Como el tiempo es más fresco, se les recuerda que los estudiantes pueden usar camisetas o leggings/medias debajo de su uniforme regular. Tenga en cuenta que las camisetas y leggings/medias deben ser blanco, gris o negro (color solido). Si los estudiantes deciden usar leggings o medias, falda/shorts debe quedar la rodilla. Botellas de Agua y Snacks Se recomienda que los estudiantes traigan bocadillos (snacks) saludables para comer durante el recreo y también traer botellas reutilizables de agua (para poder reconocerlos si se pierden). Sabemos que snacks saludables y agua durante todo el día ayudarán a nuestros estudiantes a ser más sanos y más concentrados durante sus clases. Clubes (clubs) de Otoño Comenzando el 29 de Septiembre Pronto comenzaremos a anunciar nuestros Clubes del lunes a KIPPsters! Todos nuestros KIPPsters son invitados a participar en nuestros clubes del otoño, que ocurrirán cada lunes de 4:00-5:00PM hasta enero. Estos clubes son diseñados como programas de enriquecimiento que complementan el aprendizaje de los estudiantes en sus clases. 4 4º de Septiembre del 2015 Estimadas Familias de KIPP Heritage, Uno de los grandes placeres de mi trabajo es trabajar con nuestros KIPPsters y familias. Estoy profundamente agradecida de tener su confianza a ayudar a sus hijos a alcanzar su pleno potencial. Cada año, me encanta conocer a nuestros nuevos alumnos y familias, y también profundizar mis relaciones con las personas que regresan. También he desarrollado un profundo agradecimiento por el esfuerzo que desempeñan los padres y su honor al amor, esperanza y aspiraciones que tiene para sus hijos. Espero que estas lecciones se extiendan a mi familia, y me alegra anunciar que mi esposo y yo estamos esperando nuestro primer hijo este febrero! Con esta transición en mente, he estado trabajando con nuestro equipo para planificar una transición suave durante el período de tiempo cuando yo estaré fuera de la escuela. Salvo complicaciones, es mi intención servir como directora hasta principios de febrero y regresar a mediados de mayo. Extrañare a cada uno de nuestros KIPPsters mientras estaré fuera de la escuela, pero espero que sigan prosperando bajo la dirección de nuestro equipo talentoso. En mi ausencia, Sra. Melissa Ulloa servirá como Directora provisional de KIPP Heritage Academy. Como muchos de ustedes saben, la Sra. Ulloa actualmente sirve como nuestra subdirectora. 6 Kính Thưa Gia Đình KIPP Heritage, Một trong những niềm vui lớn của công việc của tôi là được làm với KIPPsters và gia đình của chúng tôi. Tôi rất biết ơn sâu sắc đến được giao phó với việc giúp đỡ trẻ em của quý vị để đạt được tiềm năng đầy đủ của họ. Mỗi năm, tôi thích quen biết học sinh và gia đình mới của chúng tôi, cùng lúc làm sâu sắc thêm mối quan hệ của tôi với những gia đình trở lại.
