(2007) "Perceptual evidences for direct acoustic correlates of stress in Spanish", in Proceedings of the 16th International Congress of Phonetic Sciences August, 2007, Saarbrücken, Germany. pp [ ] duration has a strong effect on the perception of stress: for each intensity level, the oxytone responses increase along the duration continuum regardless of whether they are in a competing or enhancing relationship with intensity. Moreover, when intensity is neutral (level 3), speakers rely only in duration to predict stress.
10 Los correlatos perceptivos del acento Un cambio únicamente en los valores de duración o de intensidad en una palabra aislada no induce a percibir una sílaba como léxicamente acentuada Las vocales léxicamente acentuadas presentan mayor duración y mayor intensidad que las no acentuadas Los correlatos perceptivos del acento Para que una sílaba se perciba como léxicamente acentuada en una palabra aislada parece necesario un cambio en la frecuencia fundamental (F 0 ) y en la duración o en la intensidad En frases, el pico o valor máximo de F 0 no coincide con la sílaba léxicamente acentuada Los correlatos perceptivos del acento Stress : acento La sílaba más prominente en una palabra Accent : acento de frase La palabra más prominente en una frase ORTEGA LLEBARIA, M. - PRIETO, P. - VANRELL, M. M. (2007) "Perceptual evidences for direct acoustic correlates of stress in Spanish", in Proceedings of the 16th International Congress of Phonetic Sciences August, 2007, Saarbrücken, Germany. pp [ ] our results demonstrates that speakers perception of stress is conditioned by vowel type: oxytone words can be easier detected when the stressed vowel is [a] than when it is [i]. This result may relate to the fact that speakers use both duration and overall intensity cues in an additive manner to perceive the stress contrast for vowel [a]; while for vowel [i], listeners use duration and not very successfully only if overall intensity is not an available cue in the signal

Report GGT Centre de Lingüística Teòrica, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The subjects were told that they would hear a question and should then read the appropriate answer with the corresponding intonation, i.e. either with a declarative intonation and or the flat intonation of a parenthetic sentence. After shuffling the thirty cards, the experimenter (either the first or the second author) chose the card on top of the pile and then read aloud the verb, context, and first question to the subject. The subject said the answer with the appropriate intonation. Then the second question was read and the subject read out the second answer accordingly. If the experimenter thought that the subject s pronunciation or intonation of an utterance was unnatural, the speaker was asked to repeat the sentence. ORTEGA LLEBARIA, M.
