THE PASSIVE VOICE LA VOZ PASIVA
The passive voice Qué dirías si crees que no es importante quién hizo la casa? a) Somebody built this house in b) This house was built in This house was built in 1895
The passive voice Qué dirías si no sabes quién te ha robado la bici? a) Somebody has stolen my bike. b) My bike has been stolen. My bike has been stolen
The passive voice Qué dirías si no te interesa que el profesor sepa quién ha roto el cristal de la ventana? a) I have broken the window pane. b) The window pane has been broken. The window pane has been broken
The passive voice Fíjate: a) Somebody built this house in b) Somebody has stolen my bike. c) I have broken the window pane. En las tres el sujeto es quien realiza la acción del verbo (el sujeto activa al verbo para que la acción ocurra). VOZ ACTIVA
The passive voice Fíjate ahora en estas tres oraciones: a) This house was built in 1895 b) My bike has been stolen c) The window pane has been broken Dirías que los sujetos activan la acción del verbo? NO Son sujetos pasivos, no activos. VOZ PASIVA
Encuentra tres diferencias: They built this house in 1895 This house was built in 1895? 1.- El objeto directo pasa a sujeto pasivo (interesa enfatizarlo) 2.- El verbo cambia a voz pasiva (be + participle) 3.- El sujeto activo desaparece (no es importante mencionarlo)
Prueba tú: They make these cars in Japan These cars are made in Japan
Fíjate cómo cambian los verbos: Built was built Has stolen has been stolen Make are made El truco: make 2º 1º made be (en el mismo tiempo que make)
El verbo to be sustituye siempre al verbo principal (sin importar los auxiliares que haya). Do it yourself: Buy was / were bought Had told had been told Will sell will be sold Must give must be given
Observa: David gave a cake to me / David gave me a cake a) A cake was given to me by David (very formal) b) I was given a cake by David Este verbo tiene dos objetos (uno de cosa y otro de persona) ditransitivo SEND SHOW LEND ASK TELL PAY
I was given a cake by David Más frecuente en Inglés (usar el objeto de persona como sujeto pasivo) De todas formas, si optas por la otra opción, recuerda usar la preposición TO delante del objeto de persona: A cake was given to me by David.
a) I was given a cake by David b) They were told a story by their grandfather c) Ted was sent a letter by his mother Con by expresamos quién realiza la acción (si es que lo sabemos y queremos decirlo). Se llama COMPLEMENTO AGENTE
No se usa el agente si el sujeto activo es: someone /somebody people they (genérico) you (genérico) a) Someone stole my car My car was stolen b) People appreciate him He s appreciated c) They recognised her She was recognised d) You can buy stamps here Stamps can be bought here
Ahora di esto en pasiva: They are looking for him. He s being looked for. LA PREPOSICIÓN HAY QUE MANTENERLA CON EL VERBO (Igual que en la activa) They cleaned up the room. The room was cleaned up.
COMENTARIOS, OPINIONES, SUPOSICIONES a) People believe that Peter is very nice b) They say that Robert has a new car c) Everybody supposed that you like Susan Más frecuente hacerlo en pasiva: a)it is believed that Peter is very nice. b)it is said that Robert has a new car c)it was supposed that you like Susan
They say that Robert has a new car It is said that Robert has a new car RECUERDA: El verbo To Be debe ir en el mismo tiempo del verbo activo: Everybody supposed that you like Susan It was supposed that you like Susan
Otra posibilidad: People thought that Ronaldo was a better player a) It was thought that Ronaldo was a better player b) Ronaldo was thought to be a better player Everybody agrees that Betis is the best team Betisisagreedto be the best team
Si el verbo de la oración subordinada They agree that Sevilla FC is playing very well está en continuo (presente o pasado), entonces el infinitivo debe ser continuo: be + verbo (-ing) Sevilla FC is agreed to be playing very well
THE END
THE PASSIVE VOICE. 1. FORMA Cualquier idioma puede tener dos tipos de voz: VOZ ACTIVA. El sujeto es el que realiza la acción expresada por el verbo
