1 Lesson 57 : all, both, each Lección 57 : todo, ambos, cada Reading (Lectura) All the birds flew away. (Todos los pájaros volaron.) Did you eat all of the cakes? ( Te comiste todas los pasteles?) Not all the seats were taken. (No todos los asientos estaban tomados.) My parents both work in the same company. (Mis papás ambos trabajan en la misma empresa.) Both the movie and the play were good. (Ambos, la película y el juego estaban Both of my sisters are rich. (Mis hermanas, ambas, son ricas.) buenos.) 1
2 My parents can both speak English fluently. (Mis papás, ambos pueden hablar inglés fluido.) Each of the members has one vote. (Cada uno de los miembros tiene un voto.) Each student has a book. (Cada estudiante tiene un libro.) Each of the children received a special gift. (Cada uno de los niños recibió un regalo especial.) 2
3 Grammar focus (Enfoque gramatical) All puede ser usado en singular o en plural dependiendo de a qué nos estamos refiriendo. E.g.) All the girls in the class are intelligent. (Todas las niñas en la clase son inteligentes.) Niña es un nombre contable, así que en esta frase, All es plural. E.g.) All the water is gone. (Todo el agua se fue.) Agua es un nombre incontable así que en este caso All es singular. Both + Adj./Nombre + y + Adj./Nombre significa los dos se consideran como uno. Siempre es plural. E.g.)Both the movie and the play were good. (Ambos, la película y el juego eran buenos.) "Both (of) + determinante + A (plural sustantivo)" significa los dos de los As. No hay diferencia en el significado de AMBOS DE, es más común en los EE.UU. E.g.)Both of my sisters are rich. (Mis dos hermanas, ambas, son ricas.) También usamos "both + otros verbos" y "verbo modal (puede, debería, debería) + ambos + verbo" E.g.)My parents both work in the same company. (Mis padres, ambos, trabajan en la misma empresa.) My parents can both speak English fluently. (Mis padres pueden, ambos, hablar inglés fluído.) 3
4 Usamos "each" cuando enfatizamos a un miembro individual de un grupo. Puede ser seguido de un "de" + pronombre (tú, ellos, etc.) o sustantivo con determinante (como el, esto mi, tu). E.g.) Each student has a book. (Cada estudiante tiene un libro.) The principal gave a medal to each of the students. (El director dio una medalla a cada uno de los estudiantes.) each puede ser usado como un pronombre y requiere un verbo concreto. E.g.) Each of the rooms has a TV. (Cada habitación tiene una TV.) 4
