1 Lesson 65: Causative verbs: let/make/have/get Lección 65: Verbos causales: dejar/hacer/tener/conseguir Reading (Lectura) Let him go to the concert. (Déjalo ir al concierto.) Make him tell the truth. (Haz que diga la verdad.) Have your brother bring you the newspaper. (Que su hermano le traiga el periódico.) How can I get my children to read more? ( Cómo puedo hacer para que mis hijos lean más?) I will let you drive my car when you are ready. - (Te dejaré conducir mi coche cuando estés preparado.) My grandmother made me apologize for being rude. (Mi abuela me hizo disculparme por ser maleducado.) 1

3 Grammar focus (Enfoque gramatical) Los verbos causales (let, make, have, get) son usados cuando alguien causa algo o le dice a alguien que haga algo. Así se forman los verbos causales: let/make/have + PERSON+ verb get + PERSON + to + verb Let Se utiliza para permitir que alguien haga algo, o permita que algo suceda. Nota: El tiempo pasado de "let" es también "let". I will let my children play outside.(dejaré a mis hijos jugar afuera.) Don t let the water spill from the cup.(no dejes que el agua se derrame.) Make Se utiliza para obligar a alguien a hacer algo que a menudo no quieren hacer. I will make him tell the truth.(haré que diga la verdad.) Don t make her do what she doesn t want to do.(no le hagas hacer lo que ella no quiere hacer.) Have Se utiliza para dar a alguien la responsabilidad de hacer algo. I will have him print the documents out.(haré imprimir los documentos) I had my pictures taken.(tengo mis fotos tomadas.) Get Se utiliza para persuadir a alguien para que haga algo.
