1 MÓDULO CINCO LOS VERBOS Un verbo es una palabra que indica una acción, una condición o un estado de ánimo. Es el principal elemento del predicado de una oración: Mrs. Jones is the person who wrote the mail El Sr. Jones es la persona que escribió el mail Una frase verbal está compuesta por un verbo principal, y se agrega uno o más verbos, o auxiliares. is answering has gone will apply will be working might have been done Los auxiliares más comunes son los siguientes: am/is be has/have was/were shall/will could may do/does has had has been had had have been should would had been Principales formas de los verbos: Todos los verbos tienen cinco formas: infinitiva, tercera persona del singular, tiempo pasado, participio pasado, y participio presente Nota: El verbo BE tiene ocho formas la forma infinitiva: to be la tercera persona del singular: is dos formas especiales que indican el tiempo presente: am y are dos formas especiales para el pasado simple: was y were el participio pasado: been el participio presente:being Veamos en detalle las principales formas de los verbos Infinitivo: está generalmente (aunque no siempre) precedido por la palabra to (To) write: escribir (to) work: trabajar (to) go: ir Tercera persona singular: la mayoría de los verbos están compuestos por el infinitive (sin la palabra to) y se agrega s o es He writes He works He goes She writes She works She goes It writes It works It goes
2 Tiempo pasado: el tiempo pasado de la mayoría de los verbos esta formado por el infinitivo (sin la palabra to y se le agrega la terminación ed o d. Las excepciones se conocen como verbos irregulares. Worked opened wrote went Participio pasado: el participio pasado de la mayoría de los verbos es igual a la forma del pasado. Las excepciones son los verbos irregulares Worked opened written gone Participio presente: el participio presente de todos los verbos está formado por el infinitivo (sin la palabra to) y se le agrega la terminación ing. Working opening writing going Clasificación de los verbos Los verbos se los clasifica como transitivos e intransitivos Verbos transitivos: indican acción; está seguidos de un objeto directo o de un objeto indirecto y un objeto directo. Mrs Clerk noticed the error after she had given her boss the letter. La Sra. Clerk notó el error después que dio a su jefe la carta. Verbos intransitivos: algunos verbos intransitivos indican la acción realizada por el sujeto pero no están seguido de objeto directo ni objeto indirecto. Harold left the airport at nine o clock and arrived at the office after eleven. Harold salió del aeropuerto a las nueve en punto y llegó a la oficina a las once.
