2 St. Monica Convocation on Hospitality Think St. Monica is a welcoming Parish?? Ever wonder how complete strangers feel when they walk in the doors of St. Monica for the first time? Consider joining fellow Parishioners as we look at just how welcoming we are at St. Monica and how we might grow to be even more welcoming. On Friday evening, November 15 the Parish Staff and Parish Pastoral Council will co-host a Convocation on Hospitality at 6:00-9:00 pm in Emmaus Center. Regular convocations of Ministry Leaders are part of the new Parish Structure, but sometimes these gatherings lend themselves to a wider audience. For this November 15 Convocation, all Parishioners are invited. So, whether you are head-overheels in ministry involvement or just an interested Parishioner not quite as involved in ministry, we would love to have you join us for the Convocation you may be surprised by what you learn about our Parish. Pizza Pie Night All Parishioners are invited to the final PIE Night on Wednesday, November 6 from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Emmaus Center. Join Fr. Todd and scores of Small Church Community members for pizza at 6:00 pm, followed by a program beginning at 6:30 pm with presentations and dialogue regarding what to do and say when it comes to witnessing to others our love for God. Participants can expect to enjoy time together while honing and practicing skills that will help them feel more comfortable sharing faith with strangers and family alike, enabling us all to become more effective in inviting others to Christ in the Church. It promises to be a wonderful evening! If you would like to participate your RSVP will be important in ordering pizza and providing babysitting. Gabriel Project We like to thank all the parishioners who have supported this ministry through gifts, time and prayer. Next weekend, November 9-10, we will be taking collections for diapers and wipes in the Narthex. Sizes Newborn, 1, 2 and 5 are welcome. If so, we will be offering a accelerated Confirmation course to any youth that is fully catechized but are still in need of receiving the Sacrament. Please note, this is for fully catechized youth that have received religious education up until eight grade. For more information, contact Eileen Cassidy, Connected in the Spirit Update Greetings St. Monica, Fr. Dustin and I would like to keep you up to date on the Connected in the Spirit process here in the city of Indianapolis and some of the ways that it will affect St. Monica. You may recall reading about this process in the Batesville deanery and before that in the Terre Haute Deanery. We began our own process here in the city of Indianapolis about eight months ago. The Catholic parishes here were formed into cohorts of two to five parishes and asked to begin looking at ways they could work together in a spirit of common mission to serve the Catholic community of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. We then began an eight step process of looking at ways to build this cooperation in our cohorts. St. Monica is in Cohort 13 working together with St. Michael and St. Gabriel. We have completed steps one and two of the process which involved us working together in conversation with these two parishes. Our cohort team - Carlos Alexander, Gerardo Dimas, Ed Mitchell, and Michelle Boyd have been meeting with the cohort teams of these other parishes for about eight months now. This was step one: conversation. We then moved to step two and formally submitted a suggestion to the Archdiocese of a way we could partner together and share resources to better help serve the people in our areas. This was completed about a month ago. Step three was completed recently by the Archdiocesan Planning Commission. They received our suggestion and have recommended some changes. Rather than a partnership they have suggested that St. Michael and St. Gabriel be linked and then partner with St. Monica. This essentially means that they are suggesting that St. Michael and St. Gabriel maintain their identities as parishes, but share a Pastor. St. Monica will cooperate with both. An example of a way this may affect us: making sure our Mass times allow for us to help each other when needed. Please keep in mind that we are only at step three of eight steps. We will be having conversations about this recommendation as a Cohort and then submitting our response. Our response will be reviewed again and a few other things will happen until finally the eight steps are completed and the entire Indianapolis Connected in the Spirit process concludes with a recommendation for the Indianapolis Deaneries on the Archbishop s desk for his final approval. The staff is aware of these changes, as well, and can at least help find an answer for you if needed. Most of all, please continue to keep the process in prayer, that a spirit of cooperation and unity in Christ may allow us to support each other and work together for the common good of the Catholic community in the city of Indianapolis. God Bless, Fr. Todd St. Monica IWC Hosts Needed The Immigrant Welcome Center opened a Branch here at St. Monica last January. Our St. Monica IWC Branch is open every Sunday from 2:00-5:00 pm. Since that time, great work has been done through our branch clients needing help with jobs, housing, legal assistance, or just finding others from their country have all been helped through the St. Monica Branch. We are in need of St. Monica Parishioners willing to host at the Branch once per month. Hosts simply welcome those who come to the branch and help set up the room for the Natural Helpers. bilingual hosts (English-Spanish or English- French) are especially helpful. Nuestra Sucursal del CBI está abierta cada domingo de 2:00-5:00 pm. Desde entonces un gran trabajo se ha llevado a cabo a través de nuestra Sucursal clientes con necesidad de ayuda con trabajos, vivienda, asistencia legal o solo para conocer a personas de su país de origen han sido ayudados a través de la Sucursal de Santa Mónica. En este momento necesitamos más feligreses de Santa Mónica que quisieran ayudar en esta Sucursal una vez al mes. Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body of parishioners who assist the Pastor in guiding the parish on issues requiring practical wisdom and investigation. The PPC has three purposes: 1) to investigate pastoral matters; 2) to give these matters in-depth consideration and prayer; and 3) to propose practical conclusions and assist in cultivating our vision. Twelve parishioners discerned their participation on PPC for a threeyear term through June 30, 2015 related to the parish theme of Immersed in Christ: One Body. One Mission.
