Entidad Colaboradora: ICAI Universidad Pontificia Comillas RESUMEN DEL PROYECTO Este proyecto pretende a través de un elaborado estudio sobre las tecnologías existentes en videojuegos y gustos del consumidor, conseguir entender la tendencia que sigue el sector y con ello realizar una innovación en el mundo de las videoconsolas, creando la idea de un nuevo periférico tecnológicamente avanzado capaz de competir en el mercado de los videojuegos. Para ello: -Se ha estudiado teoría de estrategia e innovación -Se ha realizado una gran investigación en la prensa especializada y en la red. -Se ha estudiado la opinión de analistas de gran reputación. -Se ha realizado un estudio sobre videoconsolas actuales y futuras -Se ha investigado sobre patentes de algunas de las más importantes empresas de videojuegos Tras la investigación se ha concluido que las tecnologías más importantes para el futuro de las videoconsolas son: -Internet -Cloud-computing -Redes sociales -Detección de movimiento -Realidad aumentada -3D -Hologramas -Convergencia digital 1

2 Tras haber identificado estas ocho tecnologías o conceptos se ha realizado un estudio de cada una para conseguir una mayor comprensión y encontrar la mejor manera de aplicarlo al mundo de los videojuegos. Se han realizado dos encuestas a un grupo de 100 personas nacidas entre el año 1985 y 1991 para poder realizar un estudio de prospectiva, de tratar de verificar los vectores de innovación en el área de los videojuegos. -La primera encuesta consta de 32 preguntas y trata sobre el mundo de los videojuegos en general. -La segunda consta de 24 preguntas y se centra en la opinión que tienen los encuestados sobre las nuevas tecnologías aplicables a juegos y consolas. También se ha realizado un estudio mediante metodología Delphi para intentar prever cuáles serán los próximos eventos en el sector del ocio digital. En este caso se han seleccionado nueve expertos de los cuales cuatro son profesores de la universidad Pontificia Comillas, hay un ingeniero industrial y los otros cuatro son estudiantes de ingeniería A los expertos se les ha entregado un cuestionario que debían rellenar numéricamente y con los datos obtenidos se ha calculado la media, el primer cuartil y el tercer cuartil. Tras varias iteraciones se ha conseguido establecer qué tecnologías serán más importantes y cuándo serán viables en el mundo de los videojuegos. La conclusión a la que se ha llegado es que el futuro de los videojuegos está altamente relacionado con el internet, las redes sociales y cloud-computing. Aparte se pueden añadir detalles como el 3D, hologramas y la detección de movimiento para aumentar la espectacularidad de la misma. Como resultado, la idea que se ha propuesto para el futuro de los videojuegos se ha llamado BU (Be You), sé tú. Se propone una fusión completa entre videojuegos y redes sociales, situando todo en la nube. Para entrar en el mundo de BU el usuario debe crear un avatar propio ya sea mediante una cámara 3D o mediante un editor facial. En BU cada usuario dispone de una ciudad propia donde realizar todas las acciones. La ciudad dispone de una casa propia donde 2

3 interaccionar con los demás usuarios (chatear, subir fotos, comentar ), dispone de una sala de juegos, de un gimnasio donde entrenar, de una sala de subastas, de diversas tiendas, de un videoclub y de una sala de música. Todos los juegos estarán en la nube y se accederá a ellos mediante streaming. Para jugar en PC o MAC sólo será necesaria la instalación de un simple plug-in en el navegador, para jugar en la televisión se ofrece una microconsola, un pequeño aparato que lo único que necesita es una conexión a internet. El dispositivo de juegos de BU dispondrá de detección de movimiento y soportará 3D para aquellos usuarios que posean una televisión con esta característica. También poseerá un mando físico para poder jugar a ciertos juegos o si se prefiere mediante cable USB se podrá conectar un ratón y un teclado. La detección de movimiento será parecida a la vista actualmente en el dispositivo Kinect de Xbox360, no se manejaría con un mando sino con todo el cuerpo. Será necesario un dispositivo con sensor de movimiento y profundidad y una cámara. Para mejorar la experiencia se usarán hologramas que mezclados con la detección de movimiento creará unos hologramas palpables y de respuesta al tacto que darán una infinitud de posibilidades. El avatar del usuario variará según las acciones que éste realice, si va al gimnasio (los ejercicios del gimnasio se realizan mediante detección de movimiento) el avatar se fortalecerá, si juega a juegos de acción el avatar sufrirá heridas El coste de producción del sistema de juegos BU se estima en 253 por unidad y el coste de los servidores se estima que costará $, con una capacidad de 12 PB. El principal objetivo de BU es que el usuario se identifique completamente con su avatar y a través de él sea capaz de relacionarse y de disfrutar del ocio digital. 3

4 INNOVATION ANALYSIS OF A VIDEO GAME CONSOLE This project aims through, an elaborate study on the existing technologies in video games and consumer tastes, to get to understand the trend that follows the sector and thereby makes an innovation in the world of video games consoles, creating the idea of a new technologically advanced device capable of competing on the market of video games. To do this: -Theory of strategy and innovation was studied. - Great research in the press and the network was carried out. -The opinion of analysts of reputation has been studied. -A study on current and future video game consoles was done -An investigation on patents on some of the most important video game companies was done. After the investigation it has been concluded that the most important technologies for the future of video game consoles are: -Internet -Cloud-computing -Social networks -Motion detection -Augmented reality -3D -Holograms -Digital convergence After identifying these eight technologies or concepts it has been carried out a study of each one to get a better understanding and find the best way to apply it to the world of video games. Two surveys were done to a group of 100 people born between the years 1985 and 1991 to carry out a prospective study, try to verify the vectors of innovation in the area of video games. 4

5 -The first survey consists of 32 questions and discusses the world of video games in general. -The second consists of 24 questions and focuses on the view respondents have about new technologies applicable to games and consoles. Also a study using Delphi methodology has been made to try to anticipate what will be the upcoming events in the digital entertainment sector. In this case nine experts, of which four are Comillas Pontifical University professors, there is an industrial engineer and the other four are engineering students Experts were delivered a questionnaire which should be filled out numerically and with the data obtained, the average, the first quartile and the third quartile were calculated. After several iterations we were able to establish what technologies will be the most important and when will they be viable in the videogames world. The conclusion which has been reached is that the future of video games is highly related to the internet, "cloud-computing" and social networks. Also details such as 3D, holograms and motion detection can be added to increase the spectacle of it. As a result, the idea that has been proposed for the future of video games has been called "BU" (Be You). It is proposed a full merger between video games and social networks, putting everything in the cloud. To enter the world of BU the user must create an own avatar either through a 3D camera or using a facial editor. In BU each user has an own city where to perform all the actions. The city has an own house in which you can interact with other users (chat, upload photos, coment ), it has a game room, a gym to train, an auction room, several stores, a video store room and a music room. All games will be in the cloud and you will gain access to them by means of "streaming". To play on PC or MAC it only requires the installation of a simple plug-in in the browser, to play on television a microconsole will be needed, a small device which all that needs is an internet connection. The device of BU games will have motion detection and bear 3D for those users who have a television with this feature. It will also possess a physical remote control to be 5

6 able to play certain games or if you prefer by a USB cable you can connect a mouse and a keyboard. Motion detection will be similar to the actual Xbox360 Kinect device, the use of a remote control won t be necessary, it will only be needed our entire body. Device with movement and depth sensor and a camera will be needed. To improve the experience holograms will be mixed with motion detection, this will create tangible holograms that respond to touch; this will give infinitude of possibilities in the videogame world. User s avatar will vary depending on the actions he carries out, if you are going to the gym (gym exercises are performed through motion detection) the avatar will strengthen if he plays action games the avatar will suffer hurts and scars The production cost of the complete BU game system is estimated at 253 per unit and the server cost is estimated at $, with a 12PB capacity. The main objective of BU is that the user is identified completely with his avatar and through him be able to socialize with the rest of the world and enjoy digital entertainment. 6
