A B R I L / A P R I L Do you have any doubts and concerns about your medical bill? The LFC is going to have an awesome opportunity during this month s Chat with Doctor Diego, which will be about how to pay for medical bills. Doctor Diego and a student from the University of Pittsburgh s School of Social Work will come and give a brief presentation on this topic. Additionally, the pair will be giving a more extensive presentation on medical bills on the following Saturday, April 11, at the Birmingham Health Clinic. They will also provide a lunch for those who attend. We encourage our families to attend both presentations! La base del curso comprenderá principios básicos para la que no conoce el tema y para las que tienen conocimiento. Respeto a utilización de prenda en deshuso y aprovechamiento de telas livianas para producir productos ornamentales y a futuro entrar en el mundo de confecciones. Les invitamos a participar. No tiene que reservar tu espacio! Será el curso impartido por: Mercedes Olivares, técnico en confecciones. The Latino Family Center will begin to offer sewing classes every Friday at 10am. The objective of the course is to begin by learning the basics of sewing and establishing this skill before turning pieces of clothing and fabrics into new and decorative items. The ultimate goal of this class is to learn a new skill in a fun environment and eventually enter the world of dressmaking and tailoring. We invite you to participate. No need to RSVP. The classes will be led by Mercedes Olivares, professional tailor. Quién será que va encontrar más huevos de Pascua? Vamos a ver el miércoles, 8 de abril durante la noche de diversión. Cada Martes y Jueves, 10:30am 12:00pm En este grupo, voluntarios trabajan con todos los niños que vienen con sus madres para la Clase de Inglés. El miércoles, 1 de abril, 5:00-6:00pm El miércoles, 15 de abril, 5:00-6:00pm Padres participan en actividades con sus hijos mientras que aprenden sobre temas diferentes sobre el desarrollo de sus hijos en Inglés y en Español. Latino Family Center Monthly Events English Class Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am 12:00pm English classes at the LFC are centered around themes that we use in everyday life. Breakfast is served at 10:00AM, and staff from the LFC will provide childcare while class is in session. Kindergarten Readiness Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am 12:00pm In this group, volunteers work with children that come with their parents to the ESL class. This group focuses on preparing children for Kindergarten by reviewing the alphabet, the colors, and more! Breakfast is serves at 10:00am before the ESL class. Parent Council Meeting Wednesday, April 1, 6:00pm-7:00pm Wednesday, April 15, 6:00pm-7:00pm Join our Parent Council group! The Parent Council is composed of a group of Latino parents enrolled at the LFC. They assist the center in organizing events, advocating for families, and more. Childcare and Dinner are provided! Chat with Dr. Diego Thursday, April 9, 11am-12pm Dr. Diego Chaves-Gnecco, pediatrician at the Salud Para Niños clinic, will come to the Center to talk about important family health issues. The discussion will be in Spanish and take place after ESL class. Learning Together! (A.J.) 5 Diversión Familiar Family Fun Page P A G E 5 Pan Relleno Stuffed Crescent Rolls Ingredientes/ingredients: -2 latas de Pillsbury Crescent Roll /2 cans of Pillsbury Crescent Roll slices -tus ingredientes escogidos para el relleno (ejemplos)/your selected ingredients for the filling (examples): Queso/cheese Jamón/jam Verduras/vegetables Instrucciones: Precaliente el horno a 375 F. Desenrolla el rollo de crescent y separa en dos rectángulos. Aplasta la masa un poquito más. Después pon los rectángulos encima de la bandeja para hornear engrasada. Tapa cada rectángulo con tus ingredientes escogidos (foto proveída) y enrolla el rectángulo. Al fin, hornea los rectángulos por minutos. Disfrútalos! Directions: Preheat the oven at 375 F. Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll and separate the roll into two rectangles. Flatten the dough. Then, place the rectangles on top of a greased baking sheet. Top the rectangles with your selected ingredients and roll the rectangles. Finally, bak the rectangles for minutes. Enjoy! Usa el pegamiento y papel blanco para añadir los dientes y los ojos del monstruo. Después, conecta las dos bolsas usando la cinta. Deja el monstruo comer todos los papeles en su casa. Y al fin, tira todo, incluyendo el monstruo! Cut a large circle in the center of one of the large brown paper bags and create the mouth for the monster. Use the glue and white paper to create the monster s teeth and eyes. Then, use tape to connect the two brown bags together. Let the monster eat all of your paper products for recycling!

What has your experience with the home visiting program at the Latino Family Center been? The Latino Family Center is always looking for ways to improve the services we provide to our families. With this in mind, we are conducting a survey about your experience using our home visiting program (PAT). Keep an eye out for a visit from our volunteer from the University of Pittsburgh, Flor de Abril Gonzalez in the upcoming weeks! The information gathered through this survey will be used to evaluate our program and look for areas of improvement. Participation in this survey is completely voluntary and will not affect your ability to receive these services. If you have any questions about the survey and how the information will be used, please contact Rosamaria Ponciano at the center.
