4 The Verb Tener The verb tener means to have. The verb tener is irregular in the present tense. 4

7 Review of Nouns Nouns that end in o are usually masculine. Nouns that end in a are usually feminine. Nouns that end in e can be either masculine or feminine. Hint: memorize or look up. 7

8 Adjective Agreement Adjectives in Spanish change their forms to match the nouns they describe. Adjectives that end in o are masculine. Use with masculine nouns. Adjectives that end in a are feminine. Use with feminine nouns. 8

9 Adjective Agreement (Cont d) Adjectives that end in e or consonants don t usually change with gender. Adjectives ending in dor and adjectives of nationality end in a in the feminine form. 9

10 Making Adjectives Plural 10 To make an adjective plural, add s if the adjective ends in a vowel or es if it ends in a consonant. To make an adjective that ends in z plural, change the z to a c and add es. Hint: You do the same thing with nouns.

12 Review of Verbs in Spanish 12 There are three types of verbs: -ar, -er, and ir. When you look a verb up in the dictionary, you will find it in its infinitive form. Infinitive form means unconjugated or not changed to suit a subject and ends in ar, -er, or ir.

16 Steps to Conjugate Verbs in the Present Tense Look at the sentence and find the subject within it. 2. Look at the verb and decide whether it is an ar, -er, or ir verb. 3. Drop the infinitive ending. 4. Add the appropriate ar, -er, or ir ending based upon the subject of the sentence.

22 Formula: ir a + infinitive 22 Use this formula to say what someone is going to do in the future. Conjugate the verb ir in its appropriate form based on the subject of the sentence, place the preposition a behind it, and then place the infinitive of the verb that you are wanting to use. Ir a + infinitive is the same thing as saying going to do something.

28 Review of Indirect Object Pronouns (Cont d) 28 These Indirect Object Pronouns are followed by the correct form of the verbs gustar, encantar, fascinar, and chocar. There are no regular verb conjugations for these verbs, only these two conjugations. Look at the noun behind the verb to decide whether to use the singular or plural form of the verb.
