Psalm 23: 1-3a Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time A doctor, specialist of the Law, intending to trap Jesus, asks him: what is the greatest commandment? Jesus answers by quoting a formula every pious Jew says twice a day in his prayer: You will love the Lord Your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your spirit. These words are repeated three times to signify that the love of God has no limit. Jesus continues his answer by quoting a text of the book of the Levites that the doctor of the Law knows well: You will love your neighbor as yourself. The love of neighbor is measured by the love we have for ourselves. The love of God and the love of neighbor are inseparable. Jesus calls it to mind in the scene of the last judgment (Matthew 25, 31-45): What you did not do to the least of those who are my brothers, you did not do it to me, and what you did to them, you have done it to me. Trigesimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Un doctor de la ley quiso poner a Jesús a la prueba y le pregunto: Cual es el mandamiento mas grande de la ley? Jesús le respondió le respondió con una de las oraciones que los Judíos rezaban dos veces al día: Amaras al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu espíritu. La palabra toda es repetida tres veces para significar que el amor de Dios no tiene limites. Jesús continua diciéndoles texto del libro de los Levitas que es muy conocido por el doctor de la ley: Amaras a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. El amor al prójimo tiene la misma medida que el amor que tenemos para nosotros mismos. El amor de Dios y el amor al prójimo son inseparables. Jesús nos recuerda de esto en el ultimo juicio (Mateo 25, 31-45): Siempre que no lo hicieron con alguno de estos mas pequeños, ustedes dejaron de hacérmelo a mi. Trentième dimanche du temps ordinaire Un docteur, spécialiste de la Loi, voulant prendre Jésus au piège lui demande: «Quel est le grand commandement?». Jésus lui répond en citant une formule de foi que tout juif pieux récitait deux fois par jour dans sa prière: «Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton esprit.» Le mot tout revient trois fois pour signifier que l amour de Dieu doit être sans limites. Jésus continue sa réponse en citant un texte du livre des Lévites que le docteur de la Loi connaissait bien : «Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.». L amour du prochain se mesure à l amour que l on porte à soi-même. L amour de Dieu est inséparable de l amour du prochain. Jésus nous le rappelle dans la scène dite du Jugement dernier (Matthieu 25, 31-45). Ce que nous aurons fait ou nous n aurons pas fait à l un de ces petits qui sont ses frères, c est à lui (Jésus) que nous l aurons fait ou ne l aurons pas fait. When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest? He said to him, You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK In cases of serious illness or advancing age, please call the Rectory to arrange a visit. COMMUNION CALLS Please call the Rectory to arrange a visit by a priest. FIRST FRIDAYS Masses are at:12 Noon (English) 7:00 PM (Spanish) HOLY DAYS There are usually at least two masses on holy days of obligation, but the times may vary. 3 ALL SAINTS AND SOULS DAYS This year, All Saints and All Souls Days (Nov. 1 and 2) fall on Saturday & Sunday, respectively. They will provide an opportunity to celebrate the Communion of Saints on Saturday and pray for our Deceased at the 5:30 (Vigil Mass) and on Sunday at all the Masses. All Saints Day falling on a Saturday is not a Holy Day of Obligation. The Masses on Saturday, November 1 will be for the Feast of All Saints, there will be a Mass at 9 AM in Spanish and 12 noon in English. The 5:30 PM (Vigil) will be in anticipation of All Souls on Sunday. POPE PAUL VI BEATIFIED According to this week s NY Times this past Sunday, Pope Francis beatified Pope Paul VI who died in 1978 after shepherding the church through a period of social and political change and growing challenges. The ceremony was in conclusion of the two-week synod assembly of bishops in Rome, about which we will comment further after our bishop, Timothy Cardinal Dolan returns to NYC. SAN DIEGO DE ALCALA On Sunday, November 9 at 2:00 PM our Hispanic community will celebrate the feast of San Diego de Alcala with a Mass that will be celebrated by Fr. Luis Pulido and sung by Mexican Mariachis. There will be a reception in the basement after the Mass. All are welcomed. CHURCH BAZAAR The Hispanic community will have a sale of donated items on Sunday, November 9 from 9 AM to 2 PM. Weather permitting, it will be held on the sidewalk in front of the church, otherwise, in the basement. Donations and contributions are welcomed. FREE FLU SHOTS On Monday, November 10th from 12:30 to 1:30 PM there will be distribution of the flu vaccine. You must be over 18 and you should bring some form of picture identification. PILGRIMAGE TO WASHINGTON, DC You are invited to join the NY Archdiocese led by Cardinal Timothy Dolan to the Nation s Capital on Saturday, November 15, Experience a day of prayer at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the National Shrine of St. Paul II. For more information visit the website: OCTOBER, MONTH OF THE ROSARY During the month of October our Hispanic community is praying the Rosary every day in the homes of parishioners or in the Church. Anyone willing to have the Rosary recited in their home may call the Rectory and request to speak with Ana de Jesus for arrangements. DIA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS Y LOS DIFUNTOS Este año el día de Todos los Santos y el día de Todos Los Difuntos (Nov. 1 y 2) son celebrados los días Sábado y Domingo respectivamente. Nos ofrece la oportunidad de celebrar la Comunión de los Santos el Sábado y orar por nuestros Difuntos a las 5:30 (Misa de Vigilia) y el Domingo durante todas las Misas. El día de Todos los Santos el Sábado no es un día de Obligación de Oír Misa. Las Misas el Sábado, Noviembre 1 serán para la Fiesta de Todos los Santos. BEATIFICACION DEL PAPA PABLO VI Según un articulo en el periódico NY Times, del pasado Domingo el Papa Francisco beatifico al Papa Pablo VI quien murió en 1978 después de ser el pastor de la iglesia durante un periodo de cambios y desafíos sociales y políticos. La ceremonia tuvo lugar después de dos semanas de Sinodio, el concilio que celebra el obispo en Roma, tendremos un comentario cuando regresa el Cardinal Dolan a Nueva York. SAN DIEGO DE ALCALA El Domingo 9 de Noviembre a las 2:00p.m. nuestra comunidad Hispana celebrara una misa en honor a San Diego de Alcalá. La misa será celebrada por el Padre Pulido y animado con música de Mariachis Mexicanos. Habrá una recepción después de la misa en el sótano de la iglesia. Todos están cordialmente invitados. BAZAR DE LA IGLESIA Nuestra comunidad Hispana tendrá una venta de artículos el Domingo 9 de Noviembre de 9:00a.m. hasta las 2:00p.m. Deseamos sus donaciones y sus contribuciones.
