3 Division of Academic Achievement Learning Services Department 1025 N INTH A VENUE G REELEY, C OLORADO Students and Parents, Welcome to the Greeley-Evans Weld County School District 6 Registration Manual. In this document you will find all you will need regarding registration for classes for the upcoming school year. As you proceed through this manual you will see that it is broken into three parts. The first part consists of general information relevant to all students which includes online registration instructions, credit check sheets, NCAA guidelines, and other pieces of information. Please make sure that you carefully review all of this material to determine the best choices and selections to make during the course registration process. The second part of this manual includes an in-depth look at all 21 clusters that are represented in District 6. Each cluster overview offers a detailed look at both inschool and out of school opportunities, as well as post-secondary options for students to consider. Students will always have the option to change their clusters as they see fit. It is vital that all District 6 students have a clearly organized structure when considering the classes that will benefit them the most. The third part of this manual is the course description section. This portion details all of the classes offered in District 6 in the core academic areas, the different electives, and other academic opportunities. For each course available in District 6 you will find a brief description, the prerequisites required to enroll in that course, and the credit students will receive upon completion. School District 6 provides a quality education for every learner within a system of high expectations and rigorous, focused instruction.

19 Greeley Central High School Performing and Visual Arts Magnet Program The Greeley Central High School AMP (Arts Magnet Program) is founded on the belief that students of the arts are creative achievers who are involved in and concerned about their school and community. All incoming freshmen take the Arts and Culture class, a one semester course in which they are exposed to six weeks of instruction in each of the three major strands of the magnet: theatre/dance, music, and visual art. Magnet students are highly encouraged to take courses from all three strands. Music Strand The MUSIC STRAND students develop and refine their ability to read, play, and compose music. Immersed in all aspects of music, students transcribe songs, sight-read accurately and expressively, and analyze music as to musical elements, expressive devices, compositional devices and techniques, and use of form. Numerous large and small group, and solo concerts and recitals are held throughout the year. Theatre/Dance Strand The THEATRE/DANCE STRAND offers an exciting, comprehensive variety of opportunities for beginning through advanced levels of study and experience. Courses include work in dance and acting techniques, as well as performance skills, directing and stagecraft. Acting and dance classes provide students with performance opportunities in and out of class. Drama and dance students also explore other areas of the theatre/dance such as history, play analysis, choreography, technical theatre design and production. Visual Arts Strand The VISUAL ARTS STRAND deepen and broadens students investigation of the subject while improving their techniques and developing a style. Building on their previous work with the elements of art and principles of design, students now discuss, analyze, and synthesize the use of those elements and principles and apply them to create their own work. Many opportunities are given to individual and group exhibitions, both at school and in the community.
