3 Welcome! Awesome! Now you ve decided to join Ms.Mokim s class, let s go over what are some of the usual things to expect in this classroom. Procedures Dictionary: What You Need to Do the MINUTE You Step Into Ms.Mokim s class Absence Procedure: DO NOT BE ABSENT UNLESS IT IS A EMERGENCY An excused absence can be made up in any of the following ways: 1. Contact a classmate for any homework and class notes for the day 2. Ms.Mokim at zmokim@mesacharter.org by 6:00pm THAT NIGHT. 3. Come to class early or after school to collect any missed homework or classroom assignment The only option you have is to contact a classmate for any homework and class notes for the day so you can still submit them on time for a grade. Asking Questions or Giving Opinions: Respect others and be decent. Raise your hand or signal to the teacher when you would like to contribute while someone else is talking. Always respect whoever is speaking by NOT interrupting or shouting out. It s called consideration. Bathroom NEVER during a lesson or the first/last 10 minutes of class Use the bathroom before you enter Ms.Mokim s classroom. NO passes in the first 20 minutes of class or LAST 10 minutes of class: no exceptions ever. Students with E-Scores below a 3-4 will not be allowed to take the purse to the bathroom. Let Ms.Mokim know that you will be using the restroom by doing this signal for bathroom or being discreet so you do not interrupt others. If you are given permission to use the restroom, quietly and without distraction, walk to the Sign In Sheet, write your NAME and the time you are leaving. Any student who violates the use of the bathroom pass by taking more than 5 minutes or using it too frequently (more than once in a while) will automatically be asked to attend a Student-Teacher Conference. Entering the Classroom: NOTEBOOK PICK UP WORKSHEETS DO NOW HOMEWORK/OBJECTIVE Enter the classroom quietly, get your materials, sit down and begin working on your Do Now or Journal assignment, which will be on the board. By the time the bell rings, you will be seated and working at your seats you do not need to wait for instructions from Ms.Mokim because you will be working on your Do Now. Exiting the Classroom: ORGANIZE YOURSELF -- TURN IN ASSIGNMENT PUT BACK MATERIALS MOST IMPORTANT: Your teacher dismisses you, NOT the bell. Standing by the door waiting for the bell will result in a delayed dismissal. Turn in your assignments, clean your area and return your folder to the proper shelf on your way out. Homework Submission: I check it at the beginning of class or it goes in the Bucket Homework will be collected during the beginning of class in the BIN/TRAY. Ms.Mokim will not launch an investigation into finding your homework. For the Journals, they should be at least 1 page. Vocabulary should be a completion of the practice and additional practice. Reading Comprehension should be completing the reading guides. Materials: NOTEBOOK, PEN, PAPER Always come to class with your homework, two pens and paper. REMEMBER: You can leave your notebook! If you are not fully prepared at the beginning of class by not having paper or your pen, you may borrow one of Ms.Mokim s lapizitos from the Kindergarten box (little pencils). For every time you use a lapizito on any assignment, your effort grade on that assignment will be docked by 5% because part of your grade is this class is focused on your preparedness.

4 Note Taking Procedures: GUIDED NOTES OR ON YOUR OWN PAPER in your BINDER/NOTEBOOK During instructional time, you should be taking notes on lined paper of anything on the board. If you choose to not take notes, this will hurt your notebook E-grade and your overall potential for complete success in this classroom. Personal Questions: If it s not for the whole class, keep them PERSONAL If you need to talk to Ms.Mokim, come before school, during lunch or afterschool. Don t stop class with anything personal it s not the time. This includes asking to drink water or use the bathroom. Reading in Class: EVERYONE READS ALOUD, TAKES NOTES and WRITES QUESTIONS to ask after reading During the year, we will read aloud during class. I understand that some students are shy but everyone must read aloud in order to be prepared for the professional world. Tardiness: THE BELL MEANS YOU ARE QUIET at your desk doing the DO NOW To be ON TIME, you must be in your assigned seat WHEN the bell rings. Being late deducts a MINIMUM of 10% from your grade! Test Procedures: EVERY WEEK THERE IS A QUIZ Tests are to be taken in complete silence and independently. Anything other than this will result in an automatic ZERO. Test make up must be done by the end of the week. Trash and Recycling: BE CLEAN and DECENT Trash should be put in the trash can and all paper should be put in the recycling bin without throwing, disrupting or moving across the room during a lesson. During your independent work time, you can put the trash in the trash bin or ask Ms.Mokim to bring you the trash.
