Our ongoing conversations about the progress of your child are essential to helping them grow. Now more than ever we need to work together to help the students become successful as learners. Your help at home, practicing skills learned during the school day, plays an important role in retention. We want to thank our PTO for a wonderful Fall Festival this year. A celebration like that requires a lot of work from a lot of people; thankfully Claudia Tracht was able to put together a stellar team of parents to plan, collect materials and run the festival. A big HOORAH! goes out to the high school students of Metro Tech and Brophy for helping monitor the various stations throughout the night. The feeling of community among all our Heights families is something that separates Madison Heights from the rest. We look forward to having you join us for the many other celebrations Heights has coming up and as always, we need you to help make them possible. If you can provide any time, services or materials, please contact our PTO to volunteer. Thank you! With the end of the calendar year approaching, I would like remind you of our Tax Credit opportunities. We have had many families already make their donation and are extremely thankful for them! If you have not yet made a tax credit donation, you have until December 31 st to make it. Anyone can participate, married or single, with or without children. Friends and family members without children in schools may also donate! Married couples filing jointly may contribute any amount up to $400. Single persons, heads of households and married couples filing separately may all contribute up to $200. It is really a simple process! For every dollar you donate, the amount you owe on your 2014 Arizona taxes will be that much less. If you do not owe taxes, the amount you donate may be carried forward for up to five years to offset future tax liabilities. For example, if a single person owes $300 on their state taxes for 2014 and donates the maximum amount of $200, they will then only owe the state $100. I know in these hard economic times, it is difficult to think about donating to school. However, the money is put to very good use for a variety of extra-curricular activities. The primary use of tax credit is for grade level field trips. It is the only funding source for grade levels to take field trips. We know how valuable field trips are and how much children enjoy them. However field trips are very expensive. For each field trip, we must pay for bus service at $25.00 per hour for the bus driver(s) and $2.00 per mile for fuel! That adds up very quickly if the trip is far away from school! Lastly, tax credit donations are used to bring cultural or other events to the school. This year we ve used the tax credit money to pay for After Cool Fitness coaches during recess, a world drum presentation, the Folkloric dancers for the Fall Festival, and author s visits to our school library. Ahora más que nunca debemos de trabajar juntos para ayudarlos a convertirse en aprendices exitosos. Su ayuda en casa, el practicar habilidades aprendidas durante el día escolar juegan un papel importante en retención. Queremos agradecer a nuestra PTO por un Festival de Otoño maravilloso este año. Una celebración como esa requiere de mucho trabajo y de muchas personas; gracias a Claudia Tracht quien puso todo en su lugar y reunió a un grupo estelar de padres para planear, coleccionar materiales y ayudar a llevar acabo el festival. Un grande BRAVO! a los estudiantes de las escuelas preparatorias Metro Tech y Brophy por ayudar a monitorear las varias estaciones durante la noche. El sentido de comunidad entre todas nuestras familias de Heights es algo que separa a Madison Heights del resto. Hemos tenido muchas familias que ya hicieron sus donaciones y estamos extremamente agradecidos con ellos! Si usted no ha hecho su donativo, usted tiene hasta Diciembre 31 para hacerlo. El uso primario de Tax Credit es para excursiones escolares. Es la única manera de poder recaudar fondos para el uso de excursiones. Sabemos que las excursiones son de mucho valor a los estudiantes al igual que ellos los disfrutan. Sin embargo las excursiones son muy costosas. Este año hemos usado dinero de Tax Credit para tener dos entrenadores de After Cool Fitness a la hora de los recreos, presentador de tambores, el Folklórico durante el Festival de otoño al igual que escritores que visitarán nuestra librería escolar. If you haven t paid your $50 activity fee you can still do so. If you cannot pay the full amount at this time but would like to pay a partial amount you may do so and we will apply it towards your child s activity fee. Your $50 student activity fee will be used to pay for assemblies, extracurricular supplies, field trips and buses and more! The Madison School District Governing Board has set a standard activity fee for all Madison schools. The fee is $50.00 per student. This is the same non-refundable amount deemed by the Governing Board in previous years. This fee will be placed in the general tax credit fund for our school. If you would like to take advantage of the entire tax credit available, please feel free to add additional funds to the fee. A married couple filing jointly can claim up to a $400 donation per year on taxes and a single head of household can claim up to a $200 donation per year on taxes. You can make an online donation at just click on the tax credit tab or you can stop by the office and we will write you a receipt. Arizona Revised Statute number: ARS Coach V s P.E. We have wrapped up our volleyball unit with students taking the skills we have been working on and putting them to use in several volleyball games. I saw a lot of great serves, fantastic bumps, some spectacular sets, and even some outstanding volleys during the games. We are now moving into basketball and are currently working on our dribbling skills. We will then have several lessons on passing and shooting. Students will then utilize all of the skills they have been working on and play some basketball games. Continue to ask your student to identify the muscles in their body. Have your student show you how to dribble a basketball and have them enjoy this great Arizona weather with 60 minutes of exercise every day. Thank you,

4 Coach V. Educación Física con Coach V. Hemos terminado con nuestra unidad de voleibol. Los estudiantes han estado trabajando con sus habilidades y poniéndolas a uso en varios juegos de voleibol. Vi saques, defensa, bloqueos, tiros y sets espectaculares durante el juego. Ahora estamos entrando a la unidad de basquetbol y estamos trabajando en nuestras habilidades de rebotar el balón. Luego tendremos varias lecciones en como pasar y tirar la pelota. Los estudiantes utilizaran estas habilidades para jugar unos juegos de basquetbol. Continúe a preguntarle a su hijo/a que les identifiquen los músculos de su cuerpo. Pídale a su hijo/a que le ensene como botar una pelota de basquetbol y disfruten el clima maravilloso de Arizona con 60 minutos de ejercicios todos los días. Gracias, Coach V. THANKS to everyone that participated in the Costco Fundraiser on October 4th. For every $75 spent Costco donated 1 ream of paper to the school. Last week Costco delivered 10 cases of paper to Madison Heights! From the Art Room Items purchased from the Original Works fundraiser will be delivered before Winter Break. Thank you for supporting our school with your purchases! We are back to our original archiecture project that has the students drawing a floorplan and elevation of their Dream House. This is a challenging project for the students! I encourage everyone to help the students by drawing the floorplan of your own house. Shemer Art Center is hosting a fun family day of art on November 2 nd. The Shemer is on Camelback and 50 th Street and offers a variety of activities, classes, and opportunities for all ages. I highly recommend you check it out! Phoenix Art Museum passes are free and available on a first come, first serve basis in the library. The passes must be used and then returned to the library for the next familywho would like to use them. Take advantage of this great opportunity. We must start by thanking everyone for coming out to the Fall Festival and showing why Madison Heights is such an amazing school. We had a record number of people attend and that should translate into record funds raised for our school. In addition, we have to thank Claudia Tracht for all of her hard work and dedication to making the event so successful. Claudia and her team of hard working volunteers truly made this year s event memorable! Thank you to everyone who donated their time and needed items for the event. Urban Taco is now hosting Madison Mondays at their restaurant located at 6522 North 16 th Street. Every Monday Urban Taco will donate a portion of sales to Madison Heights and Madison #1. Thank you to Mrs. Shen for coordinating and running the Scholastic Book Fair. Her hard work results in new books for our students and our school! Out of 70 participating schools, Madison Heights was the fourth highest earning school in Costco s Shop School Event earning 98 reams of paper. The items ordered from the Believe Kids Fundraisers will soon be arriving. Thank you to everyone who participated and purchased items. Also, a big thank you to Tammy Murphy for her hard work in organizing this event. Thank you to Dionne Washington for coordinating the meals for the Parent/Teacher Conferences.
