3 Welcome Messages Dear colleagues and friends. We created ALAI over 30 years ago in the city of Buenos Aires. I was honored to be indicated vice-president. Since then, we have been meeting and exchanging experiences between ourselves. Why? Because we have the same dreams, ambitions and problems. We know how immunology is important for the health of people and animals in our countries. We suffer from under-financing of our scientific projects, mis-comprehension of civil society and politicians, same odd diseases, same poverty...working together will certainly shorten the way to find solutions to overcome these adversities. Welcome Messages This year, we will meet again in the pleasant town of Mendellin, after a great effort of organization and gathering people from Luis Fernando Garcia and his crew. We ll also have the opportunity of having the entire Council of IUIS and many committee chairs representing the good Immunology from around the world. Our Colombian colleagues were able to put together a fantastic and very dense scientific program. We ll also have the chance of learning a little bit more about this beautiful country with so many contributions to international culture. 4 Welcome Messages As President of the Latin American Association of Immunology (ALAI) and on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I welcome you to our 11th Congress IMMUNOCOLOMBIA2015 and the 10th Congress of the Colombian Association of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI). Together with the Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee, we are ready to make IMMUNCOLOMBIA2015 an unforgettable experience both personally and scientifically. Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia and is becoming a hub for hosting premier scientific events. This is due to the City s commitment to promote science, technology and innovation, along with highly qualified academic institutions supported by a solid community of scientists. Now, if you add our innate charm, the multiple cultural and touristic attractions and the beautiful natural landscapes that surround this valley, you will find the perfect scenery to share science and friendship in a very comfortable environment. The Scientific Committee structured a program of lectures covering all main areas of Immunology that will be presented by recognized immunologists from Latin America and the world that are experts in these topics. In addition, the enthusiastic response to the call for abstracts for oral and poster presentations will for sure enrich the program, bringing new generations of immunologists together to share their research and to establish strong ties, that will foster future scientific collaborations between Latin America and the world. IMMUNOCOLOMBIA2015 also includes a pre-congress course entitled Immune Regulation in Health and Disease, aimed to provide doctoral students, post-docs, and recently graduated immunologists from all Latin American countries (that submitted abstracts), with cutting-edge knowledge regarding the complex regulation of the immune response in health and disease. I deeply appreciate the strong support of the IUIS Educational Committee Chair Prof. Michelle Letarte, the Faculty of experts who generously accepted to be in the course, the commitment of Professors Joseph Bellanti and Clive Gray, and Becton Dickinson Biotechnology; together, they will make this course an innovative experience for the IUIS educational activities. IMMUNOCOLOMBIA2015 also includes a post-congress workshop on Veterinary immunology aimed to promote the development of this important field of immunology in our countries. During these days, Medellin will also host the 63rd Council meeting of the IUIS. Many members of the seven committees will attend ALAI as well, and this will also be a great 4

5 opportunity for ALAI and the other regionals federations, to become more inclusive with IUIS to promote immunology in their respective regions. Welcome Messages Finally, I want to acknowledge the generous support from many organizations that are part of the city s administration, the Universidad de Antioquia, the Fundación Universidad de Antioquia, Scientific Societies and many other institutions, as well as the Laboratory suppliers and Pharmaceutical companies that have enthusiastically contributed to make of Inmmunocolombia2015 a reality, so we can ratify now that In Medellin, Immunology Flourishes.
