Scripture Study in English meets on THURSDAY EVENINGS at 7pm in the Parish Life Center Living room...join us any time. Dear Friends, We are approaching the end of the Liturgical Year and we are reminded today and in the readings for the next two weeks that Christ, offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him. (2nd Reading) In eager anticipation, let us respond to His call, in the Gospel today, to give fully of ourselves to Him and to prepare ourselves. We might begin by preparing ourselves for the special celebrations which are upcoming. On Thanksgiving Day, we join with our brothers and sisters of all faith traditions in giving thanks to God for all of His gifts. It is a tradition to bring to the mass that day the bread which will later be shared around the family table to be blessed at the end of mass. This recalls the blessed bread which is distributed at the conclusion of the Eucharistic Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom celebrated in the Eastern Rite. On December 8 th, we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of Mary with a special Holy Day of Obligation. Mary Immaculate is the patroness of the United States and this day holds particular meaning for us. A few days later, on December 12 th, we again celebrate Mary, the Virgin of Guadalupe, under her title as the patroness of the Americas. St. Pius V will celebrate that day with a festival in her honor. I urge all of us to support that festival with our participation in the planning, execution and celebration. On the evening of December 9 th, we will gather with priests from our sister parishes to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the first such celebration in our parish during the Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis. Let us respond to God s offer of mercy and ask His forgiveness for our sins. Christmas Day is the second most solemn feast day of the Church. With the Incarnation of Christ we are granted a share in His divinity. Our joy is expressed in the way we celebrate the Liturgies of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Take part by helping with the preparation of the Church, by participating in our Christmas choirs and, most of all, by joining together in offering ourselves to the Father with Christ in the Sacrifice of the Mass. Let us get ready now for these special days and for the Last Day. Fr. Joe

3 St. Pius V Catholic Church November 8, 2015 Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song First Reading 1 Kgs 17:10-16 In those days, Elijah the prophet went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the entrance of the city, a widow was gathering sticks there; he called out to her, "Please bring me a small cupful of water to drink." She left to get it, and he called out after her, "Please bring along a bit of bread." She answered, "As the LORD, your God, lives, I have nothing baked; there is only a handful of flour in my jar and a little oil in my jug. Just now I was collecting a couple of sticks, to go in and prepare something for myself and my son; when we have eaten it, we shall die." Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid. Go and do as you propose. But first make me a little cake and bring it to me. Then you can prepare something for yourself and your son. For the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'The jar of flour shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'" She left and did as Elijah had said. She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well; the jar of flour did not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, as the LORD had foretold through Elijah. Responsorial Psalm Ps 146 R. Praise the Lord, my soul! Second Reading Heb 9:24-28 Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf. Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that is not his own; if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice. Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after this the judgment, so also Christ, offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him. Gospel Mk 12:41-44 Jesus sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood. Al llegar a la puerta de la ciudad, encontró allí a una viuda que recogía leña. La llamó y le dijo: Tráeme, por favor, un poco de agua para beber. Cuando ella se alejaba, el profeta le gritó: Por favor, tráeme también un poco de pan. Ella le respondió: Te juro por el Señor, tu Dios, que no me queda ni un pedazo de pan; tan sólo me queda un puñado de harina en la tinaja y un poco de aceite en la vasija. Ya ves que estaba recogiendo unos cuantos leños. Voy a preparar un pan para mí y para mi hijo. Nos lo comeremos y luego moriremos. Elías le dijo: No temas. Anda y prepáralo como has dicho; pero primero haz un panecillo para mí y tráemelo. Después lo harás para ti y para tu hijo, porque así dice el Señor de Israel: La tinaja de harina no se vaciará, la vasija de aceite no se agotará, hasta el día en que el Señor envíe la lluvia sobre la tierra. Entonces ella se fue, hizo lo que el profeta le había dicho y comieron él, ella y el niño. Y tal como había dicho el Señor por medio de Elías, a partir de ese momento, ni la tinaja de harina se vació, ni la vasija de aceite se agotó. Salmo Responsorial Salmo 145 R. El Señor siempre es fiel a su palabra. Segunda lectura Heb 9, Hermanos: Cristo no entró en el santuario de la antigua alianza, construido por mano de hombres y que sólo era figura del verdadero, sino en el cielo mismo, para estar ahora en la presencia de Dios, intercediendo por nosotros. En la antigua alianza, el sumo sacerdote entraba cada año en el santuario para ofrecer una sangre que no era la suya; pero Cristo no tuvo que ofrecerse una y otra vez a sí mismo en sacrificio, porque en tal caso habría tenido que padecer muchas veces desde la creación del mundo. De hecho, él se manifestó una sola vez, en el momento culminante de la historia, para destruir el pecado con el sacrificio de sí mismo. Y así como está determinado que los hombres mueran una sola vez y que después de la muerte venga el juicio, así también Cristo se ofreció una sola vez para quitar los pecados de todos. Al final se manifestará por segunda vez, pero ya no para quitar el pecado, sino para salvación de aquellos que lo aguardan y en él tienen puesta su esperanza. Evangelio Mc 12, En aquel tiempo, Jesús estaba sentado frente a las alcancías del templo, mirando cómo la gente echaba allí sus monedas. Muchos ricos daban en abundancia. En esto, se acercó una viuda pobre y echó dos moneditas de muy poco valor. Llamando entonces a sus discípulos, Jesús les dijo: Yo les aseguro que esa pobre viuda ha echado en la alcancía más que todos. Porque los demás han echado de lo que les sobraba; pero ésta, en su pobreza ha echado todo lo que tenía para vivir. Preguntas de la Semana Tema: Debemos darle a Dios hasta que hayamos dado lo suficiente. Paso dos: Ver Tu Vida Pregunta para los niños: Qué parte de tus posesiones se te pide que compartas? Pregunta para los jóvenes: Cuando piensas en tu propia vida, te consideras rico o pobre? 4 St. Pius V Catholic Church November 8, 2015 Queridos amigos, Nos acercamos al fin del año litúrgico y se nos recuerda hoy y en las lecturas de las próximas dos semanas que " Cristo se ofreció una sola vez para quitar los pecados de todos. Al final se manifestará por segunda vez, pero ya no para quitar el pecado, sino para salvación de aquellos que lo aguardan y en él tienen puesta su esperanza." (2a Lectura) En expectación, respondamos a su llamada, en el Evangelio de hoy, para darle totalmente de nosotros mismos a él y para prepararnos. Podríamos empezar por prepararnos para las celebraciones especiales que están próximas. En el Día de Acción de Gracias, nos unimos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas de todas las tradiciones a dar gracias a Dios por todos sus dones. Es una tradición para traer a la misa ese día el pan que más tarde será compartida alrededor de la mesa de la familia. Este pan será bendecido al fin de la misa. Esto recuerda el pan bendito que se distribuye al fin de la Liturgia Eucarística de San Juan Crisóstomo celebrado en el rito oriental. El 8 de diciembre se celebrará la Inmaculada Concepción de María, una fiesta de precepto. María Inmaculada es la patrona de los Estados Unidos y este día tiene un significado especial para nosotros. Unos días más tarde, el 12 de diciembre, una vez más celebraremos a María, la Virgen de Guadalupe, bajo su título como la patrona de las Américas. San Pío V celebrará ese día con un festival en su honor. Les suplico a todos que apoyen ese festival con nuestra participación en la planificación, ejecución y celebración. Por la noche del 09 de diciembre, nos reuniremos con los sacerdotes de las parroquias cercanas para celebrar el Sacramento de la Reconciliación, la primera celebración en nuestra parroquia durante el Año de la Misericordia proclamado por el Papa Francisco. Vamos a responder a la oferta de la misericordia de Dios y pediremos perdón por nuestros pecados. El día de la Navidad es el segundo día de la fiesta más solemne de la Iglesia. Con la Encarnación de Cristo se nos concede una participación en su divinidad. Nuestra alegría se expresa en la manera en que celebramos las Liturgias de la Nochebuena y la Navidad. Participen al ayudar con la preparación del templo, al participar en nuestros coros de la Navidad y, sobre todo, al unirnos en el ofrecimiento al Padre de Cristo en el Sacrificio de la Misa.
