1 Español I Unidad 1 By the end of the unit, you will be able to: 1. Describe yourself (and others) 2. Find out what others are like 3. Describe activities you like and dislike to do 4. Find out others likes and dislikes 5. Compare and contrast teenage relationships throughout Spanish speaking countries with those of the United States 6. Explain the cultural importance of Day of the Dead 7. Identify and use: subject pronouns, the verb ser and adjectives FORMATIVE VOCABULARY GRAMMAR Given a word/phrase in English or a Picture, write the correct word/phrase in Spanish. Use adjectives correctly in agreement with nouns. Conjugate and use the verb ser correctly in context. CUMMULATIVE Culture Listening Reading Writing Speaking Distinguish and utilize subject pronouns for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd person, singular and plural. Explain differences between friendships in Spanish speaking countries and the United States and support your explanation with specific examples. Describe the festivities of the Day of the Dead Listen to people describing themselves and indicate the activities or adjectives you hear about each person. Read a descriptive paragraph about a person and decide if the statements that follow are true or false. Complete statements by writing the opposite personality characteristics. Write a letter in Spanish of at least ten sentences to a host family in a Spanish-speaking country describing your interests, likes and dislikes. Talk to your teacher about what you are like and what you like to do. Ask him (her) about his (her) interests and likes.

The girl is kind. o El chico es amable. The boy is kind. - Adjectives agree in number and gender with the noun they modify. Ni Ni: - If you want to say that you do not like either of the two choices given, use ni ni to mean, neither nor or not or. o No soy ni deportista ni artístico. I am neither athletic nor artistic. I am not athletic or artistic. También/Tampoco: - Use también to agree with a positive statement. o Me gusta hablar por teléfono. o Sí me gusta (hablar por teléfono) también.
