Agendas are posted 72 hours prior to the meetings at the Bay Point Library 205 Pacifica Avenue and the Bay Point office of the Contra Costa Sheriff located in the Shore Acres Shopping Center. The mission of Covered California is to increase the number of Californians with health insurance, improve the quality of health care for all of us, and reduce health care coverage costs. RIO VISTA ELEMENTARY PLAYWORKS EVENT On October 12, the community came together at Rio Vista Elementary to re-paint the playground. The event was successful due to the time, energy and enthusiastic support of many volunteers from Playworks, PG & E and Craig s Communication and the many other volunteers that showed up that day. PG&E SHELL POND PROJECT WETLAND RESTORATION UPDATE OCTOBER 2013 Cleanup activities were stopped January 2012 because of odors caused by dredging activities. PG&E continues to work with the California Environmental Protection Agency, Contra Costa County, local Air Board, and other regulatory agencies to restart the clean up in the future, and then PG&E will notify the Bay Point community the next phase of work. FREE TAX SERVICE For the past 10 years, The Bay Point Works Community Career Center participated as a Volunteers Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. This program is designed to provide FREE Tax preparation services for low income residents who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This past tax season, Bay Point Works prepared over 500 tax returns for our residents and helped put over a million dollars back to families in Federal refunds. Our efforts are to ensure that people claim their EITC credit that largely goes unclaimed to the tune of over a million dollars per year in Contra Costa County alone. Si usted quiere mas infamación acerca de este programa por favor llame a Eva al (925) UPDATE ON AMBROSE PARK MASTER PLAN/POOL PROJECT The Ambrose Recreation & Park District Board of Directors recently held four special community meetings to take public input on the Ambrose Park Master Plan. While the Board received a variety of comments and suggestions about the plan and what people would like to see in the park, the overwhelming priority expressed by the community was to rehabilitate and reopen the existing pool facility. The Board indicated it had heard the public s concern about the pool loud and clear when it directed the Interim General Manager to do all things necessary to get Ambrose Park pool and buildings rehabilitated and reopened within the existing pool budget as soon as feasible. Approximately $1.5 million is available for the pool project. A number of things must occur before the pool and buildings can be reopened. Not all of these things can be done unilaterally by the District. There are other partners that the Board and District must rely on and work with, such as funders like East Bay Regional Park District and the City of Pittsburg. There are design firms and contractors that must be found and brought under contract. There are government regulations that must be adhered to. Nonetheless, the Board and District staff members are committed to getting the pool and buildings reopened as quickly as possible. A Request For Proposals (RFP) has been developed to solicit proposals from professional design firms to design and produce construction documents for the rehabilitation of the pool. It is expected a design firm will be selected and under contract to the District before the end of the year. SEARCH FOR A PERMANENT GENERAL MANAGER The Ambrose Recreation and Park District Board of Directors expects to appoint a permanent General Manager by the middle of November after a comprehensive search and selection process. An internal panel and community panel interviewed five candidates from a pool of almost 20 applicants for the position in mid-october. From those interviews two finalists emerged who will be interviewed by the full Board the first week in November with a selection expected to be made by the Board shortly thereafter. The Bay Point Garden Club has hosted workshops, gardening demonstrations and garden tours. In addition, we participate and collaborate with other local agencies in other community events. The club also spearheads the planning and coordination of the Bay Point Spring Derby Parade and Festival that is celebrated every Memorial Day. The Garden Club meets very first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at La Finca restaurant. Annual membership is $25/person and $40/family.
