1 NEWSLETTER N 2 Buenos Aires, February 200 Dear Colleagues and Friends, In less than three months we shall be holding the 65th FIAF Congress, the first to take place in Argentina, where we look forward to sharing with you the celebration of the Centenary of Argentine Cinema on May 24th and the 60th Anniversary of the. In this second newsletter, you will find the Programme of Events, as well as information about a choice of hotels near the Buenos Aires Theatrical Complex (CTBA), which is centrally located (only a few meters from the emblematic Obelisk), and where most of the meetings will take place. Please find enclosed Registration and Hotel Reservation forms and useful information for planning your trip. Special accommodation rates have been negotiated with the hotels. The Congress activities will take place at the Film Theatre Leopoldo Lugones, on the 10th Floor of the Buenos Aires Theatrical Complex. This will also be the venue for our cinema screenings, which we hope that movie-lovers from Buenos Aires will attend and enjoy as much as festival guests. On May 25th National Day we have organized a special holiday evening, when we will have a special celebration for our Congress at the very porteño [i.e., from Buenos Aires] Maipo Theatre. The Maipo, a variety theatre which recently celebrated its centenary, has been linked from its beginnings with the Argentine cinema world. 3 Newsletter N 2 ACOMMODATION We have selected hotels located near the Complejo Teatral Buenos Aires, downtown BA, with different proposals for any budgets and preferences. TRANSPORTATION The international airport of Ezeiza, Ministro Pistarini, is 45 minutes far from Buenos Aires. It offers a good choice of taxis, rental cars, and shuttles. CURRENCY The official currency is the Peso Argentino. Change is available at the airport, exchange bureaux and hotels. PASSPORT We kindly ask you to check in your country for any legal requirements for your stay in Argentina. SYMPOSIUM The topic of the 65th Congress will be The Cinematheques in Search of Their Audiences. The following issues will be discussed, among others: Cinematheques as Audience Makers, Education through Cinema and for Cinema, New Technologies and The Advance of Festivals over the Historical Roles of Cinematheques. LOGISTICS A busssines center with computers, web, printers, a.s.o., will be available for Delegates. The Congress will be recorded on video. SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATION The whole Symposium and the General Assembly count on simultaneous translation into the three official languages of FIAF: Spanish, English and French.
