Check that this booklet has pages 2 8 in the correct order and that none of these pages is blank. New Zealand Qualifications Authority, 2006 All rights reserved. 2 2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SUPERVISOR AND THE TEACHER INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SUPERVISOR The group for a single session of this examination should comprise no more than 40 candidates. Ask whether any candidates have any difficulty in hearing. Such candidates should be seated as near as possible to the teacher. Ensure that the teacher reading the listening passages has a copy of this booklet. Ensure that each candidate has a copy of the Spanish booklet. Under no circumstances should the teacher see any of the candidates booklets before or while reading the listening passages. NOTE: Forty minutes is suggested for the listening assessment. Teachers should NOT be stopped if they exceed the 40 minutes. The timing of the various passages is to be done by the teacher. At the end of the listening assessment, candidates will continue with the other assessment activities for Spanish Level 1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TEACHER You should allow up to 40 minutes for the assessment of Spanish Begin reading at the point marked * at the top of page 3. Read out to the candidates all the material printed in italics according to the instructions given. Read at a normal classroom learning speed. It is recommended that, as you complete each reading, you tick the box alongside the pause instructions. Note that pause times vary according to the length of the reading. Details of the number of readings are printed in the candidate s booklet as part of their instructions.

QUESTION ONE: SCHOOL SUBJECTS You will hear a passage in which four Hispanic students discuss their school subjects. You will hear the passage read three times. The first time, you will hear it as a whole. Just listen to get the general idea. Then you will hear it twice more, in sections, for you to focus on the relevant details. There will be a pause after each section. Answer the questions, in English, in the spaces provided in the grids on pages 2 and 3. Your answers must be based on the information you hear.
