1 Raul C. Martinez Elementary and the parents of student participating in activities, services and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility; for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State s high Standards. This school- parent compact is in effect during the school year The mission of Raul C. Martinez Elementary School is to provide students with a positive learning environment that (1) enables them to reach their academic potential, (2) heightens and enriches their natural curiosity and (3) inspires future learning. School Responsibilities Raul C. Martinez Elementary School will: Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State s student academic standard as follows: Hiring highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals; Provide on-going professional development programs with focus on Rigor and Relevance; giving extra assistance for students by providing in school and after school tutorials. R. Martinez Elementary keeps parents informed of their child s academic progress through the use of progress reports. Progress reports are distributed at least once during each grading cycle. Additionally, parents are notified any time that their child s grade drops by one or more letter grade. Progress Reports will be issued the weeks of September 26, 2016, November 28, 2016, February 13, 2017 and May 1, Provide parents with a handbook, newsletters, and notices in a language that parents can understand. Each student is given an agenda to record homework assignments and to inform families of important dates and activities. Other information items are distributed by the teacher to be taken to the parent or guardian. Provide parents with the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss concerns about their child. However, there are designated Parental Involvement Days during which time parents may meet with teachers to discuss their child s academic progress. Dates for the school year are: October 11, 2016 and January 25, 2016 Provide parents reasonable access to staff. A 24 hour notice should be given before a conference is held. Written request should be sent directly to the teacher. Meetings may be scheduled during the teacher s conference period. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: Open House, Family Literacy Nights, Family Science Night, ESL Parent Classes, Coffee with the Principal, Brighter Bites, and extra-curricular activities. Parents who wish to volunteer will be required to complete the HISD Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) documents
2 PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES: We as parents will support our children s learning in the following ways: Please bring your child to school by 7:40 a.m. and arrive for dismissal at 3:00 p.m. When visiting the school or school sponsored events, be mindful of your attire and language. Update contact information (phone #, address, etc..) within 24 hours of a change. Monitor our child s attendance and make sure to send written excuses to school the day that my child returns from an absences Attend Parent Teacher conferences Honor the teacher s conference times Review and sign the student agendas each day Monitor our children to make sure they are completing their homework assignments Communicate with our children about their day at school Stay informed about my child s education by promptly reading all notices sent home by the teacher or the school Read to or with my child for at least 30 minutes each day STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: The students of Raul C. Martinez Elementary will strive to increase our academic success by: Arriving at school prepared to learn each day by bringing all necessary items (paper, pencils, eyeglasses.....) Being attentive and active during class Always follow all school and classroom rules Giving our parents all notices sent home by the teacher or the school Completing all homework assignments and returning them to the teacher the next day. Asking for help when I do not understand and assignment Spending at least 30 minutes reading outside of school each day

RESPONSABILIDADES DE LA ESCUELA : Proveer un currículo de alta calidad e instrucción en un ambiente de aprendizaje propicio y eficaz que permite a los niños participantes cumplir el estándar académico de los estudiantes del Estado de la siguiente manera: La contratación de maestros y para-profesionales altamente cualificados; Proporcionar programas en curso de desarrollo profesional con enfoque en el rigor y relevancia; dar ayuda adicional a los estudiantes al proporcionar tutoriales en la escuela y después de las clases. La primaria R. Martínez mantiene a los padres informados sobre el progreso académico de sus hijos a través de la utilización de los informes de progreso. Los informes de progreso se distribuyen al menos una vez durante cada período de calificaciones. Además, los padres son notificados cada vez que la calificación de su hijo cae por uno o más grado de la letra.
