6 The Hispanic Seniors community invites you to come and join Gwendolyn Rhodes from Northwest Florida Area Agency On Aging, Inc. She will give a presentation on Resources for Seniors, on Tuesday, January 21 st at 3:30 pm. A second presentation on How to avoid Falls will take place on Tuesday, February 18 th at 3:30 pm. Both presentations will be in English and will take place in room 201 of the Activity Center. Beginning February 3, 2014 and continuing through April 9th, United Way of Escambia will offer free tax preparation for taxpayers in the parish and in the Navarre/Midway/Tiger Point area. IRS Trained and Certified volunteer tax preparers will be available in the Activity Center. Hours of operation will be 10AM to 4PM on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, also by appointment only 4PM-6PM Tues., call to schedule. We will do taxes in both English and Spanish. During normal hours no appointment is needed (except on Tues. evening); just come to the center and bring your SS Card and a picture ID along with your 2013 tax information (W-2s, SS payment info, interest statements, last years return, etc.). The United Way has offered this service for seniors in the Pensacola area for several years and regularly prepares thousands of returns for seniors, low and middle income families, students and others looking for help. The expansion of this valuable service to the Navarre area recognizes the growing population of this community and offers residents a way to get free expert help with tax preparation and filing. You do not have to be a member of St Sylvester Catholic Church to get this free tax preparation service.

A Note from Lynn at Interfaith Ministries Dear Prospective Volunteer: Countless needy families and individuals go without shelter, food, clothing and essential medical care everyday in our community. Many suffer because of situations beyond their control. While we are all subject to hard times, it is our privilege to help families in need. Would you like to help us make a difference? We need people like you willing to donate time, energy and experience either at Interfaith Ministries Thrift Shop or at Good Samaritan Clinic. Our mission is to help meet the financial, physical, and spiritual needs of the people of our community. Together we can help needy families and individuals and impact lives for the better. The financial assistance office helps people who qualify stay in their homes by helping pay the mortgage/rent and utilities. In addition, we have a food pantry to help those who are without food and help with clothing from the thrift shop. The clinic provides free medical care and free medications to those who do not have medical insurance. How are we able to do this? Interfaith Ministries Thrift Shop makes it possible for our organization to help those who are less fortunate than we are. The Thrift Shop operates as a retail style shop selling donated, quality goods at a fraction of their retail price. Monies made from the thrift shop as well as money provided by grants and donations are reinvested in our community. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of our total income is used for program costs. Our current volunteers say they feel most rewarded by the role they play in affecting other people s lives in a positive way. Presentar su tarjeta del Seguro Social, un documento de identidad y la información para los impuestos, es decir el formulario W-2, el pago al seguro social, balances de intereses, declaración de impuestos del año anterior, etc. United Way viene ofreciendo este servicio al área de Pensacola desde hace varios años y con frecuencia prepara los impuestos para las personas de la tercera edad, para familias de ingresos medios, estudiantes y para quienes necesiten asistencia. El incremento de este magnífico servicio en el área de Navarre demuestra un crecimiento en la población de esta comunidad y ofrece a sus residentes la posibilidad de recibir la ayuda de manos expertas en la preparación de impuestos.
