Each certificate offers a challenging and comprehensive learning experience. Plan: First talk with your supervisor. Make sure you their full support as you pursue this certificate. Completing a Certificate: All requirements must be fulfilled within two years. Upon completion, contact the Talent Development Department for a training history review. If you've satisfied all requirements, the Talent Development Department will present you with a letter and formal certificate. A letter will also be sent to your supervisor for filing with your employee record. When notifying Talent Development, include the following information: your full name phone number and the certificate you have completed Please Note: Talent Development Department does not allow certificate candidates to challenge courses or receive credit for skills already developed through life or work experience. Questions about the Certificate Program? Contact talent@heifer.org Heifer Project Management Certification Project management is, more than ever, a fact of life for Heifer International. Changing patterns of funding, particularly the impact of the large grants, mean that it is becoming ever more common for agencies to develop their work and secure funding by developing specific projects. Funders in their turn are asking for details of how projects will be managed, with some beginning to expect agencies to use one or another established project management system. Against this background there is a clear need for project management expertise, yet Heifer, like the rest of the nonprofit sector has no great tradition of using formal methods of project management. This may be a reflection of a reasonable record of success: we haven t suffered from high profile project failures. But as Heifer International s projects grow in size and complexity it s clear we too can benefit from the established body of knowledge that exists on effective project management. Project management isn t rocket science. A lot of it is common sense and anyone who has been involved in running a project informally will find much that is familiar. But established methods provide a 1
2 more complete and systematic framework for defining and controlling a project as well as helping with less tangible but vital areas like establishing good communication, clarifying roles and building strong teams. This Heifer Project Management Certification is intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and skills of project management from the NGO and People perspective. If you are an administrative professional you know that you serve as information and communication managers for an office; plan and schedule meetings and appointments; organize and maintain paper and electronic files; manage projects; conduct research; and disseminate information by using the telephone, mail services, Web sites, and . You may also handle travel and guest arrangements. These disciplines change rapidly. The flexibility to choose courses that will assist you in building practical tools and skills that you can apply in all of these areas is what the Heifer Administrative Professional Certificate allows you to do. In order to meet the needs of staff globally, the Heifer Administrative Professional Certificate can be obtained in two ways: Complete 15 of the on-line training courses below within two years or Complete a combination of 15 on-line training courses below and classroom training within two years. Class room training is only available for HQ staff at this time.
