2 OSU Nutrition Corner Tips for Parents Milk matters! Children of every age, and adults too, need the calcium, protein, and vitamin D found in milk for strong bones, teeth, and muscles. Offer fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk at meals. If you are lactose intolerant, try lactose-free or lactose-reduced milk or calciumfortified soy beverages. Math Resource Need some extra math support to help your learner with math? This year in 1 st and 2 nd grade math classes are using a math curriculum called Engage New York. This page links to the resources includes guides, activities, and videos to help parents better understand how we are implementing Common Core Learning. It also provides videos and activities for parents to help their student with math assignments and homework. 3 GYM NOTES Dear Parents & Guardians, A quick reminder: ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR APPROPRIATE GYM SHOES FOR PE CLASSES Students are required to wear gym shoes (tennis shoes/athletic shoes that lace, Velcro or have Tight Elastic so they will stay on for PE class. Safety in PE starts with wearing shoes that allow for safe activity. If your child is wearing sandals, boots or some other type of shoe to school, please help them remember to put their gym shoes in their backpack or bag for PE. They may also leave gym shoes at school in their cubby. Thank you for your help with reminding students to pack their gym shoes. Los estudiantes están obligados a usar zapatos apropiados para el gimnasio (tenis, zapatos atléticos con agujetas, con velcro, o los que tienen elástico apretado para mantenerlos seguros) durante la clases de educación física. La seguridad en la clase de educación física comienza con el uso de zapatos adecuados que permitan tener una actividad segura. Si su estudiante está usando sandalias, botas u otro tipo de calzado para la escuela, por favor ayude a recordarles que deben poner sus tenis en su mochila o en una bolsa para Educación Física.
