3 MOTHER S DAY NOVENA Our annual Mother s Day Novena begins in three weeks on Sunday, May 10th. Deceased and living mothers may be enrolled in this novena. Novena envelopes are in the boxed sets that our registered parishioners receive. Extra envelopes for those who need them are on the shelves by the front center doors of the church. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The Religious Education Program will be open from 9:30AM to 2:30PM and Monday through Wednesday nights from 6PM to 8:30PM. Please call for more information. There will be a retreat for 6 th and 7 th graders who attend on Wednesdays this week. There was a flier given to the students last week in class. Please pray for them as they come together to deepen their love and understanding of God. The Second graders will have a retreat next Saturday. Please continue praying for our students. MISSIONS OUR MISSION IN ENGLISH WILL BE CONDUCTED BY FR. JAMES DILUZIO, CSP, A PAULIST PRIEST WHO GIVES PARISH MISSIONS AS PART OF HIS MINISTRY. THE MISSIÓN BEGINS SATURDAY, MAY 2 ND, AT THE 5PM MASS AND CONTINUES THROUGH MAY 6 TH. This year St. Peter s Church has two parish missions: one for our parishioners who speak Spanish and one for our parishioners who speak English. Our mission in Spanish took place from Sunday, March 22 nd through Friday, March 27 th. Fr. German Ramirez from the Diocese of Barahona, Dominican Republic, conducted this mission. FOOD PANTRY Next Sunday, April 26 th, is the last Sunday of the month of April which is Loaves and Fishes Sunday for us at St. Peter s Church when our parish Food Pantry seeks help in providing food for those in our community who are hungry. There is a box in the rear of church to receive donations. Thank you for your generous support. NOVENA DEL DIA DE LAS MADRES Nuestra Novena Anual del Día de las Madres comenzara en tres semanas el domingo 10º de mayo. En esta novena pueden ser inscritas las madres vivas o difuntas. MISIONES Nuestra misión en ingles será conducida por el Padre Rev. James DiLuzio CSP un Padre Paulista que tiene como ministerio el conducir misiones. La misión comenzara, el 2º de mayo, en la misa a las 5PM y continuara hasta el 6º de mayo. Este año nuestra Iglesia San Pedro tiene dos misiones parroquiales: Una para nuestros feligreses que hablan español y una para nuestros feligreses que hablan Inglés. Nuestra misión en español tomó lugar a partir del domingo 22º de marzo, hasta el viernes 27º de marzo. El Padre German Ramirez, desde la Diócesis de Barahona, Republica Dominicana, condujo esta misión durante la semana antes del Domingo de Ramos. DESPENSA DE ALIMENTOS El domingo próximo, día 26º de abril, es el último Domingo del mes de abril, el cual es Domingo de Panes y Peces para nosotros aquí en la Iglesia San Pedro, que es cuando nuestra Despensa de Alimentos, busca ayuda para proveer alimentos para aquellos en nuestra comunidad que pasan hambre. Hay una caja en el vestíbulo de la iglesia para recibir sus donaciones. Gracias por su apoyo generoso. 4 MERGER: ST. PETER CHURCH AND ST. MARY CHURCH Next Sunday, April 26 th, from 2:15 PM to 4PM in our school gym, parishioners from St. Peter Church and St. Mary Church will gather together to share some of our parish life and history with each other. Those who would like to attend are asked to register at the table in the rear of church after Mass or to call our rectory office and leave your name and telephone number. There will be other events that St. Peter parishioners and St. Mary parishioners will be able to share: the mission at St. Peter s Church May 3 rd to May 6 th ; the Mass in St. Peter s Cemetery on May 25 th (12PM); the Corpus Christi procession on June 7 th and the St. Peter s picnic on June 14 th. The closing Mass at St. Mary Church will be offered during the day on Saturday, August 15 th. The first Mass in our newly-merged parish will be offered in the evening of the same day, August 15 th. Preparations for these Masses are beginning. Please pray for peace for all of those for whom this merger is difficult and sorrowful. Please pray that God brings forth new and renewed life to our newly-forming parish. POPE FRANCIS: MERCY Jesus Christ is the face of the Father s mercy. These words might well sum up the mystery of the Christian faith. Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth, reaching its culmination in him. The Father, rich in mercy (Eph 2:4), after having revealed his name to Moses as a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Ex 34:6), has never ceased to show, in various ways throughout history, his divine nature. In the fullness of time (Gal 4:4), when everything had been arranged according to his plan of salvation, he sent his only Son into the world, born of the Virgin Mary, to reveal his love for us in a definitive way. Whoever sees Jesus sees the Father (cf. Jn 14:9). Jesus of Nazareth, by his words, his actions, and his entire person[1] reveals the mercy of God. We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it. Mercy: the word reveals the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Mercy: the ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us. Mercy: the fundamental law that dwells in the heart of every person who looks sincerely into the eyes of his brothers and sisters on the path of life. Mercy: the bridge that connects God and man, opening our hearts to a hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness. At times we are called to gaze even more attentively on mercy so that we may become a more effective sign of the Father s action in our lives. For this reason I have proclaimed an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy as a special time for the Church; a time when the witness of believers might grow stronger and more effective. The Holy Year will open on 8 December 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. This liturgical feast day recalls God s action from the very beginning of the history of mankind. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God did not wish to leave humanity alone in the throes of evil. So he turned his gaze to Mary, holy and immaculate in love (cf. Eph 1:4), choosing her to be the Mother of man s Redeemer. When faced with the gravity of sin, God responds with the fullness of mercy. Mercy will always be greater than any sin, and no one can place limits on the love of God who is ever ready to forgive. I will have the joy of opening the Holy Door on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. On that day, the Holy Door will become a Door of Mercy through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons, and instils hope. UNION DE LAS IGLESIAS DE SAN PEDRO Y SANTA MARIA El domingo próximo, 26º de abril, de 2:15PM hasta las 4PM los feligreses de la Iglesia de San Pedro y de la Iglesia de Santa Maria se reunirán para compartir algunas de nuestras vidas e historias de nuestras parroquias. Los que quieran asistir tienen que llamar a la rectoría ( ) y dejar su nombre y número de teléfono. Habrán otras actividades que los feligreses compartirán: la Misión parroquial en la iglesia de San Pedro del 3 de mayo hasta el 6 de mayo; la Misa en el cementerio de San Pedro el 25 de mayo (12PM); la procesión el 7 de junio, la Fiesta de Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo; el pasadía parroquial el 14 de junio. La última misa en la iglesia de Santa Maria se ofrecerá el sábado durante el día, 15 de agosto, la fiesta de la Asunción de María. La primera misa en nuestra parroquia recién fusionada será ofrecida en la tarde o en la noche del mismo día, 15 de agosto. Los preparativos para las misas están empezando. Oremos por la paz de todos aquellos que se le hace difícil y triste este proceso. Por favor, oremos para que Dios proporcione nueva vida a nuestra recién formada parroquia. PAPA FRANCISCO: LA MISERICORDIA Jesucristo es el rostro de la misericordia del Padre. El misterio de la fe cristiana parece encontrar su síntesis en esta palabra. Ella se ha vuelto viva, visible y ha alcanzado su culmen en Jesús de Nazaret. El Padre, «rico de misericordia» (Ef 2,4), después de haber revelado su nombre a Moisés como «Dios compasivo y misericordioso, lento a la ira, y pródigo en amor y fidelidad» (Ex 34,6) no ha cesado de dar a conocer en varios modos y en tantos momentos de la historia su naturaleza divina. En la «plenitud del tiempo» (Gal 4,4), cuando todo estaba dispuesto según su plan de salvación, Él envió a su Hijo nacido de la Virgen María para revelarnos de manera definitiva su amor. Quien lo ve a Él ve al Padre (cfr Jn 14,9). Jesús de Nazaret con su palabra, con sus gestos y con toda su persona[1] revela la misericordia de Dios. Siempre tenemos necesidad de contemplar el misterio de la misericordia. Es fuente de alegría, de serenidad y de paz. Es condición para nuestra salvación. Misericordia: es la palabra que revela el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad. Misericordia: es el acto último y supremo con el cual Dios viene a nuestro encuentro. Misericordia: es la ley fundamental que habita en el corazón de cada persona cuando mira con ojos sinceros al hermano que encuentra en el camino de la vida. Misericordia: es la vía que une Dios y el hombre, porque abre el corazón a la esperanza de ser amados no obstante el límite de nuestro pecado. Hay momentos en los que de un modo mucho más intenso estamos llamados a tener la mirada fija en la misericordia para poder ser también nosotros mismos signo eficaz del obrar del Padre. Es por esto que he anunciado un Jubileo Extraordinario de la Misericordia como tiempo propicio para la Iglesia, para que haga más fuerte y eficaz el testimonio de los creyentes. El Año Santo se abrirá el 8 de diciembre de 2015, solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción. Esta fiesta litúrgica indica el modo de obrar de Dios desde los albores de nuestra historia. Después del pecado de Adán y Eva, Dios no quiso dejar la humanidad en soledad y a merced del mal. Por esto pensó y quiso a María santa e inmaculada en el amor (cfr Ef 1,4), para que fuese la Madre del Redentor del hombre. Ante la gravedad del pecado, Dios responde con la plenitud del perdón. La misericordia siempre será más grande que cualquier pecado y nadie podrá poner un límite al amor de Dios que perdona. En la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción tendré la alegría de abrir la Puerta Santa. En esta ocasión será una Puerta de la Misericordia, a través de la cual cualquiera que entrará podrá experimentar el amor de Dios que consuela, que perdona y ofrece esperanza.
