The present participle for an ar verb is ando, which is ing in English. Stem-changing verbs that end in ar and er do not stem change in the present participle. estar = to be yo estoy nosotros(as) estamos tú estás vosotros(as) estáis él, ella, Ud. está ellos, ellas, Uds. están EX: Yo estoy caminando. I am walking. Qué estás tomando? What are you drinking? Estamos esperando a la maestra. We are waiting for the teacher. The present participle for an er or ir verb is iendo, which is ing in English. 10 UNIT 6-3 WS#10 PRESENT PROGRESSIVE: -YENDO Verbs that end in er/-ir and whose stem ends in a vowel require the ending yendo instead of iendo. Verbs that use yendo include: creer, leer, oír, ir*, traer, caer, and any verb ending in uir. creer = creyendo = thinking, believing leer = leyendo = reading oír = oyendo = hearing ir = yendo = going* *The present participle of ir is rarely used. 11 UNIT 6-3 WS#11 DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS: LO, LA, LOS, LAS The direct object in a sentence receives the verb, or the action in a sentence. The direct object can be replaced by a direct object pronoun. For example, changing I see the boy to I see him. Direct object pronouns are placed before the conjugated verb. Four of the eight direct object pronouns in Spanish are: lo = him, you formal (m), it (m) los = them (m, m & f), you all (m, m & f) la = her, you formal (f), it (f) las = them (f), you all (f) EX: Quié tiene los papeles? Who has the papers? Yo los tengo. I have them. (I them have.) Estás comprando la comida? Are you buying the food? Sí, la estoy comprando Yes, I am buying it. (I it am buying.) In addition to lo, la, los, and las, there are: me = a mí = me te = a ti = you (informal) nos = a nosotros = us os = a vosotros = you all (informal) EX: Quién me está buscando? Who is looking for me?
