2 COMPARATIVOS: DE IGUALDAD AFIRMATIVO AS AS + adjective + AS = TAN + adjetivo + COMO AS This book is as interesting as that magazine. (Este libro es tan interesante como esa revista.) Buenos Aires is as expensive as Tokyo (Buenos Aires es tan cara como Tokio.) NEGATIVO NOT AS + adjective + AS AS = NO TAN + adjetivo + COMO DE SUPERIORIDAD This flat is not as big as that house. (Este apartamento no es tan grande como esa casa.) Paris is not as expensive as Tokyo (París no es tan cara como Tokio.) Los monosílabos y los bisílabos terminados en sonido vocálico o con acento en la segunda sílaba forman el comparativo añadiendo -er al adjetivo: er ADJETIVOS HASTA 2 SÍLABASS adjective + ER + THAN = M = MÁS + adjetivo + QUE This book is cheaper than that magazine. Este libro es más barato que esa revista. EXCEPCIONES: (1) Si el adjetivo es monosílabo y termina en consonante precedido de una sola vocal, la última consonante se duplica: Madrid is bigg gger than Barcelona. (2) Si el adjetivo termina en y precedida de consonante, la y se convierte en i y añade ER: Sara is prettier than Jessica. (3) Si el adjetivo termina en e, simplemente añade R: Peter is nicer than Paul.
3 Con los polisílabos se antepone more more (más) al adjetivo seguido de than (que ) ADJETIVOS DE MÁS DE 2 SÍLABAS S MORE + adjective + THAN = M = MÁS + adjetivo + QUE Paris is more interesting than Los Angeles. París es más interesante que Los Angeles. DE INFERIORIDAD Se antepone less (menos) al adjetivo seguido de than (que comparativo): less expensive than, menos caro que; less intelligent than, menos inteligente que. SUPERLATIVOS 1. Los monosílabos y bisílabos añaden la terminación -est al adjetivo y van precedidos del artículo THE est THE: the tallest, the smallest, the largest ADJETIVOS HASTA 2 SÍLABASS THE + adjective + EST (the tallest) You are the tallest, (eres el más alto) Mount Everest is the highest mountain, (el monte Everest es la montaña más alta.) EXCEPCIONES: 1. Si el adjetivo es monosílabo y termina en consonante precedido de una sola vocal, la última consonante se duplica: Madrid is the bigg ggest est city in Spain Si el adjetivo termina en y precedida de consonante, la y se convierte en i y añade EST ST: Sara is the prettiest girl in the world. iest 3. Si el adjetivo termina en e, simplemente añade ST: Peter is the nicest student in the class.

Los polisílabos anteponen the most (el más, los más, la más, las más) al adjetivo: This book is the most expensive book This girl is the most beautiful girl book (este libro es el más caro). girl (esta chica es la más guapa). 3. El superlativo de inferioridad se forma añadiendo the least (el menos) al adjetivo: Manchester is the least expensive city in England, Manchester es la ciudad menos cara en Inglaterra. COMPARATIVOS Y SUPERLATIVOS IRREGULARES good, bueno bad, malo late, tarde little, poco much, mucho many, muchos old, viejo far, lejos far, lejos better than, mejor que worse than, peor que later than o latter, posterior less than, menos que more than, más que more than, más que older than o elder than, mayor que farther than, más lejos que further than, más lejos que the best, el mejor the worst, el peor the latest o the last, el último the least, el mínimo the most, el máximo the most, el máximo the oldest o the eldest, el mayor the farthest, el más lejano the furthest, el más lejano
