LESSON 10 ADVERBS (ADVERBIOS) 1. He plays football beautifully, but he plays basketball very badly. She walked towards me very slowly. (Ella camina hacia mí muy lentamente.) That's a lovely watch, but it's terribly expensive! He spoke in a friendly manner. (Él habló de una manera amistosa) She laid there looking very lonely. (Ella se quedó allí mirando muy sola.) 1
En algunos casos, el adverbio es exactamente igual a su adjetivo correspondiente: EARLY, LATE, FAST, HARD, LEFT, RIGHT, WRONG, HIGH, LONG. I'm afraid the plane will leave late. (Temo que el avión salga tarde.) He cleans very fast. (Él limpia muy rápido) El adverbio del adjetivo GOOD es WELL. She is very a good dancer. (Ella es muy buena bailarina.) She dances salsa very well. (Ella baila la salsa muy bien.) 2. ADVERBS AND ADJECTIVES: TOO AND ENOUGH 2.1 USO Se usan para hablar de adjetivos o adverbios en términos de exceso (TOO), suficiencia (ENOUGH) o insuficiencia (NOT... ENOUGH). FORMA + SIGNIFICADO: [TOO + Adjetivo o Adverbio] (EXCESO). This place is too expensive. (Este lugar es demasiado caro.) FORMA + SIGNIFICADO: [Adjetivo o adverbio + ENOUGH] (SUFICIENCIA). Certainly, I'm strong enough. (Por cierto, yo soy lo suficientemente fuerte.) FORMA + SIGNIFICADO: [NOT (-N'T) + Adjetivo o Adverbio + ENOUGH] (INSUFICIENCIA) Don't play football there. The grass isn't dry enough! (No jugar allí al fútbol. La hierba no está lo suficientemente seca!) 2
3.2 COMPARATIVE FORMA: [SUJETO 1 + VERBO + MORE + Adverbio + THAN + SUJETO 2 (+DOES/CAN etc)...] I can dance more beautifully than you. (Puedo bailar mejor que tú.) 3.3 SUPERLATIVE FORMA: [SUJETO 1 + VERBO + THE MOST + ADVERBIO (OF ALL)] Out of all the people at work, Maria does her tasks the most carefully. ADVERBIOS CON LA MISMA FORMA BASICA QUE LOS ADJETIVOS: FORMA: Comparación: Anadir -ER Johnson can run faster than Ronaldo. (Johnson puede correr más rápido que Ronaldo.) FORMA: Superlativo: añadir-est I got up earlier than Ana did this morning, but Fred got up the earliest.
5. FORMAS IRREGULARES DEL COMPARATIVO y SUPERLATIVO: 5.1 Forma basica: WELL BADLY LITTLE MUCH 5.2 Comparativo: BETTER WORSE LESS MORE 5.3 Superlativo: THE BEST THE WORST THE LEAST THE MOST 6. I always drink milk with my breakfast. (Siempre bebo leche con mi desayuno.) 4
FORMA: [BE + ADVERBIO] He is sometimes late for work. (Él llega a veces tarde al trabajo) 6.3 NEGATIVA: FORMA: [NOT + ADVERBIO] My girlfriend isn't usually quiet. (Mi novia no es generalmente tranquila.) 6.4 PREGUNTAS: FORMA: [SUJETO + ADVERBIO] What do you usually have for lunch? ( Qué sueles tener para el almuerzo?) 5
