10 EXPOSICIÓN NUEVA YORK An art critic s greatest pleasure and greatest satisfaction is in discovering new talent. Nothing is more gratifying that following the professional career of someone who was born to create and who also has the strength and tenacity needed to continue creating. The first photographs that I saw by Cristina Lamata impressed me with their intelligence, their sensitivity and something that very few artists have, except for the very best: her work reflects the way she is, her character, her means of engaging with the world and her take on life. Each photograph evokes the simplicity and balance of a moment when time seems to stop, the beauty of objects that no-one notices turned into the centrepieces of the stage, unusual points of focus that make the insignificant key. I predict that this very young photographer, whose work has from the outset invited comparison with masterpieces, will go very far indeed. El mayor placer y la mayor satisfacción de un crítico de arte es el descubrimiento de un nuevo talento. Nada es más gratificante que seguir la trayectoria profesional de alguien que parece que ha nacido para crear y que, además, posee la fuerza y el tesón necesarios para seguir creando. Las primeras fotografías que vi de Cristina Lamata me impresionaron por su inteligencia, su sensibilidad y algo más que muy pocos artistas, solo los muy buenos, tienen: sus obras trasmiten parte de su forma de ser, de su carácter, de su forma de estar en el mundo y de ver la vida. En cada fotografía está la sencillez y el equilibrio de un momento en el que parece detenerse el tiempo, la belleza de los objetos en los que nadie repara convertidos por ella en protagonistas, los enfoques insólitos que transforman en crucial lo más trivial. Auguro muchísimos triunfos a esta jovencísima fotógrafa que, desde el principio, ha colocado ya a sus trabajos en la órbita de las obras maestras. I missed my old bike, wich I first used to see and discover my small world. And I went to find it. I found hidden bikes, forgotten bikes, next to old flamenco bars or next to a now-silent cinema... On the way, my worl grew: new perspectives, new landscapes, new lights, new visions, new dreams... I have still not found my old bicycle, but while I search I discover another part of my life. Part of life.... y de repente me acordé de ella. Eché en falta mi vieja bicicleta, aquella desde la que empecé a ver y descubrir mi pequeño mundo. Y fui a buscarla. Encontré bicis escondidas, bicis olvidadas, junto a un viejo tablao o frente a un cine ya mudo... Por el camino, mi mundo se iba ampliando: nuevas perspectivas, nuevos paisajes, nuevas luces, nuevas visiones, nuevos sueños... Aún no he encontrado aquella vieja bicicleta, pero mientras la busco, voy a descubrir parte de mi vida. Parte de la vida. Cristina Lamata
