OBJETIVO GENERAL: The general objective of the course is to help the students develop cultural competence by 1. gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews, 2. examining attitudes towards cultural differences, 3. becoming aware of one`s own cultural worldview. OBJETIVO ESPECÍFICO: Alter having finished the course the students should be able to use the terminology related to this field of study ( see: glossary of cross-cultural terms) confidently. They should also be able to understand and describe the different issues and theories related to the field of study. As a practical application of the gained knowledge, students should be able to design an Intercultural Research Project, carry it out and present their findings in written (report) and spoken (presentation) form. Students participate in class discussions about topics covered in the weekly reading assignments.the teacher is a guide who aids the students to understand the subject matter through brief lectures which will lead on to class discussions. EVALUATION: First Quiz Second Quiz Third Quiz Final Exam with Portfolio Evaluation 20 points

4 EVALUATION SYSTEM: There will be at least two ways the students will demonstrate their engagement with the readings: Guided Responses and Quizzes. With regard to Guided Responses, the student will be asked to write answers to questions that require him/her to reflect on concepts and/or apply them. S/he also may be asked to write responses before and after reading an assignment for the class in order to promote his/her engagement with the reading and to prepare for class discussion. Also, the student will take quizzes and examinations in which s/he demonstrates mastery of topics covered in weekly reading assignments, lectures, and class discussions. At the end of the course students should apply all the gained knowledge by designing and carrying out an Intercultural Research Project whose results will be presented to the class. The student keeps, evaluates, and submits a portfolio of all his/her written work, including answers to questions, quizzes, and tests. The complete portfolio is worth 10 points of the final exam grade.
