2 Introduction Example: The air is being polluted in Reynosa, by the refinery. Here the less important thing is who is polluting the air. Infinitive clauses and phrases will start with to the difference between these structures is that the phrase do not has a verb. Infinitive clauses can function as a noun, as an adjective or as an adverb. Introduction I have to ride my bike today. I wanted a cat to love. Alex is eager to keep studying for his history exam. 3 The present perfect passive voice continuous is formed as follows: Subject + have/has + being + participle The students have being called to take the exam. My uncle has being rewarded for his great job. Pat and John have being asked to arrive on time. Another bridge has being constructed because of the heavy traffic. Questions for this structure are as follow: Have Pat and John being asked to arrive on time? Yes, they have. Has Another bridge being constructed because of the heavy traffic. No, it hasn t.. 3

4 If you see the previous sentences do not explain who is doing the action, but instead you may say why is this action being taking. To give reasons the expressions you can use are: due to, because of, the difference between these two prepositions is that due to is formal. Problems have being held due to job loss. Oxygen has being used due to bad air. The meeting is being held in room 8 as a result of the damage our meeting room has. In these sentences due to is used instead of because of. The difference between these two prepositions is that due to is more formal than because of.. 4

5 The infinitive clauses and phrases. Infinitive clauses and phrases start with to the difference between these structures is that the phrase do not has a verb. Example of infinitive phrases: Pat helped to built the school. I have to ride my bike today. We promised to study more. Paul stood up to talk.. 5

6 Infinitive clauses may form a sentence, or we can say that a sentence may contain two clauses. Patty is going to Paris and she is going to live there. One way to improve vocabulary is to read a lot. The best way to improve education is to train teachers better. If the preposition by is preceded by a verb for sure you are talking of a method or a way and the verb after by takes the gerund form.. 6

7 Example: A good way to improve your vocabulary is by reading a lot. You can become better in speaking by living in England. Pat can enroll at SMU by applying before May. John can finish before time by asking for some help. Closing You have reinforced the use of present continuous passive. It is important to remember that this tense is always in present formed by: The verb to be (in present). am, is or are + being + participle form of the verb.. 7

8 Closing The traffic is being jammed by the lack of lights. Students are being noisy by the arriving of U2. The second structure that you reviewed was the present perfect passive. It is important to remember that in this tense the doer of the action can be omitted. Closing The last structure was the infinitive clauses and phrases.
