1 Confirmation/1st communion Requirements for St. Paul s Catholic Church Attend mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. (Form #1) The Roman Catholic Church teaches that we have an obligation to attend mass on Sundays and Holy days of obligation. I will not be keeping track of who attends mass and who does not. At the end of the year, parents will be asked to sign a letter verifying that their son/daughter has attended mass on Sundays and Holy days of obligation. If parents choose to lie on this form, that is between them and God. The Mass Attendance form is due by March 16 th. 2. Go to confession during Advent and Lent. The Church strongly encourages regular participation in the sacrament of Confession, especially during Advent and Lent or prior to receiving another sacrament such as confirmation or marriage. All teens receiving confirmation or 1 st communion this year are expected to attend confession prior to receiving the sacrament. I would like the teens to attend the parish reconciliation services (during Advent or Lent). They are also encouraged to also attend confession during regular confession time on Saturdays (3:30-4:30) or Wednesdays (5:00-5:45) 3. Attend Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday Services. These days are not holy days of obligation but they are VERY important services in the life of a practicing Catholic. All teens receiving confirmation or 1 st communion are expected to attend. 4. Service (Form #2) All teens must complete 10 hours of service this year they must fall under the corporal works of Mercy this will be reviewed with students. Many opportunities will be presented to fulfill this requirement. They must plan on helping the entire time, not just for a couple hours. Once service is completed, teens will need to complete their service report and turn it in on or before March 16 th. If teens want to do something else for their service hours then it will have to be approved by their confirmation teacher. 5. Attend Class Teens are only allowed 3 absences for the whole year!!! If they miss more than 3 classes they will not receive confirmation or 1 st communion. Please call the parish office and talk with Mari if you need to miss a class there are no unexcused absences allowed. 6. Sponsor (Form #3) All teens need to choose a sponsor and turn in a copy of their baptismal certificate. Sponsor forms and baptismal certificates are due by January 13th. If they are not turned in on time your son or daughter will be forced to wait another year for confirmation or first communion. Sponsors must be practicing

2 Catholics over the age of 18 who have received the sacrament of confirmation. They cannot be parents but they can be other family members. The Church recommends, but does not require, the use of Baptismal God Parents. There will be a meeting for all sponsors sometime after November. All sponsors are required to attend. If a sponsor cannot make it, a parent can come in their place. 7. Saint Name and report. (Form #4) (CONFIRMATION ONLY) Confirmands will choose a saint name for confirmation. They will need to answer the questions on the saint report form and turn it in by February 17th. 8. Letter to the Bishop (CONFIRMATION ONLY) Confirmands will write a letter to the bishop expressing their desire to be confirmed. Letters are due March 16 th. Letters should be neat and legible. In the letter, teens should express their desire to receive the sacrament, tell the Bishop a little bit about themselves (school, hobbies, family), mention one thing they learned this year in youth group and mention one thing that they still want to learn more about. 9. Retreats. Middle school teens are required to attend the Jr. High Youth Rally and Spring Retreat. High school teens are required to attend ICYC (Idaho catholic youth convention) ICYC is March 4-6 and a fall retreat. ICYC is around $100 and the Jr. High Rally is usually around $50. The date for the rally is November 21st. Start saving money now for these retreats. 10. Prayers Students will need to know the standard Catholic/Christian prayers. These include the Apostle s creed, the prayer to St. Michael, Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. They may recite them in English or Spanish. They will be tested on these prayers during their interview at the end of the year. (prayers are listed at the end of this document) 11. Interviews All teens are required to have a confirmation or 1 st communion interview. These will be held on Saturday April 9 th. 12. Gospel Worksheet. (Form #5) Teens need to complete a Gospel worksheet. I STRONGLY encourage families to do these together as a family. We could all benefit from spending some time together as a family going through one of the Gospels. These are due February 24 th. 13. Baptismal Certificate You must turn in a copy of your baptismal certificate no later than November 4 th. They can be turned in to the Church office during normal business hours or given to Mari on Sundays. If you do not turn in a copy of your baptism certificate by November 4 th, you will not be confirmed/receive 1 st communion.

Family Meeting Each family will need to come in and meet with me between September 21-October 5, the youth who is preparing for sacrament and at least one parent to go over requirements and answer any other questions but also to see how else we can serve your family. Life Nights Part of preparing for the sacraments is to be in communion and fellowship with fellow Catholics High school students are required to attend one Life night event per semester. 4 Requisitos para recibir la Confirmación y Primera Comunion en la Parroquia de San Pablo Asistir a misa los Domingos y Días de Observancia. (Forma #1) La Iglesia Católica Romana nos ensena que debemos asistir a misa los Domingos y Días de Obligación. No estaré tomando notas de quien asistió a misa o no. Al final del año, se le pedirá a los padres de firmar una carta donde verifique que su hijo/hija asistió a misa Dominical y Días de Obligación. Si los padres deciden mentir en la carta, será entre ellos y Dios. La Forma de Asistencia a Misa se deberá entregar el 16 de marzo. 2. Ir a Confesión durante el Adviento y cuaresma. La Iglesia fuertemente aconseja la participación del sacramento de la confesión, especialmente durante el Adviento y Cuaresma o antes de recibir otro sacramento como la Confirmación o Matrimonio. Todos los jóvenes que estarán recibiendo la Confirmación o Primera Comunion este ano deberán confesarse antes del recibir el sacramento. Me gustaría que los jóvenes asistan a los servicios de confesiones parroquiales durante el Adviento y Cuaresma. También les aconsejo asistir a confesiones durante las horas regulares de la parroquia que son los sábados de 3:30pm a 4:30pm o miércoles 5-5:30 p.m. 3. Asistir a los servicios del miércoles de Ceniza, Jueves Santo y Viernes Santo. Estos días no son días de obligación pero son MUY importantes en la vida de un Católico practicante o active. Todos los jóvenes que recibirán la Confirmación o Primera Comunion deben de asistir. 4. Servicio (Forma#2) Todos los jóvenes deben de completar 10 horas de servicio vamos a darles varios oportunidades de servicio que serán este ano. Las fechas se anunciaran como se presenten. Después de que los jóvenes completen sus horas de servicio deberán escribir un reporte sobre su servicio y entregarlo el 16 de marzo. Si los jóvenes quieren hacer alguna otra cosa para completar su obligación de servicio, el servicio tendrá que ser aprobado por el maestro, ante mano. 5. Asistir a clase Los jóvenes solamente podrán faltar 3 clases durante el ano!!! Si faltan más de 3 clases no podrán recibir la Confirmación o Primera Comunión. Favor de llamar la ofician parroquial para avisar si van a faltar una clase no se permita ausencias sin excusa. 6. Padrinos (Froma#3) Todos los jóvenes tendrán que escoger un padrino y entregar una copia de su certificado de Bautismo. Las formas de el padrino y copia del certificado de bautismo debe ser entregado para el 13 de Enero. Si estas formas no son entregadas a tiempo su hijo/a tendrá que

5 esperarse otro año para poder recibir la Confirmación o primera Comunion. Los padrinos deben ser Católicos activos, tener por lo menos 16 años de edad y haber recibido la Confirmación. Los padrinos no pueden ser los padres del joven, aunque si pueden se padrinos otros familiares. La Iglesia recomienda, pero no es requerido, que se usen los padrinos de Bautismo. Habrá una reunión para los padrinos después de Noviembre. Todos los padrinos serán requeridos de asistir a dicha reunión. Si un padrino no podrá asistir, puede estar presente uno de los padres (del joven) en su lugar. 7. Nombre de Santo y reporte. (Forma#4) (Solamente para la Confirmación) Los jóvenes de confirmación deberán escoger un nombre de un santo para la confirmación. También tendrán que contestar las preguntas en la forma del reporte sobre el santo. La forma del reporte tendrá que ser entregada para el 17 de febrero. 8. Carta al Obispo (Solamente para la Confirmación) Los jóvenes de confirmación le escribirán una carta al Obispo en la cual le expresaran su deseo de ser confirmado/a. Las cartas deben ser entregadas para el 16 de Marzo. Las cartas deben ser limpias y legibles. En la carta, el joven deberá expresar su deseo de recibir al Confirmación, decirle al Obispo algo sobre sí mismo (escuela, pasatiempos, familia), mencionar una cosa que aprendió durante este año en el grupo juvenil y mencionar una cosa que aún le gustaría aprender. 9. Retiros Los jóvenes en grados 6-8 (Middle School) son requeridos de asistir al Jr. High Rally y los jóvenes en los grados 9-12 (High School) son requeridos de asistir a ICYC (Convención para los Jóvenes Católicos de Idaho) y un retiro de otoño. Se tendrá que pagan una cuota de inscripción para cada retiro. La cuota para ICYC será alrededor de $100 y la fechas son el 4-6 de marzo. El Jr. High Rally la cuota normalmente es alrededor de $50 la fecha para el Jr High Rally es el 21 de noviembre. Se sugiere que empiece ahorrar dinero para estos retiros 10. Oraciones Los estudiantes tendrán que aprenderse las oraciones Católicas/Cristianas. Como lo son el Credo de los Apóstoles, la oración a San Miguel, el Padre Nuestro, Ave Maria y la Gloria. Las oraciones pueden ser recitadas en Ingles o en español. Los estudiantes serán puestos a prueba sobre estas oraciones durante su entrevista al final del ano. (Al final de este documento se encuentra una lista de estas oraciones.) 11. Entrevistas Todos los jóvenes de Confirmación o primera Comunion serán requeridos de participar en una entrevista. Las cuales serán por la mañana del sábado 9 de abril. 12. Tarea del Evangelio. (Forma # 5)

6 Los jóvenes necesitaran completar una tarea sobre un Evangelio. Fuertemente les aconsejo que esta tarea se haga en familia. Todos podemos beneficiar al pasar un poco de tiempo estudiando uno de los evangelios, juntos como familia. La tarea deberá ser entregada para el 24 de febrero. 13. Certificados de Bautismo Los jóvenes deberán entregar una copia del certificado de Bautismo no más tardar del 4 de Noviembre. Las copia podrán ser entregadas a la oficina parroquial durante las horas regulares o a los maestros de clase. Si usted no entrega una copia del certificado de Bautismo para el 4 de Noviembre, no podrá recibir el Sacramento de Confirmación o Primera Comunion. 14. Reunion familar Cada familia se necesita reunir con Mari deleon entre las fechas 21 de septiembre 5 de octubre, la reunión será con el joven que se está preparando para el sacramento y a lo menos un padre. Nos reunimos para contestar preguntas y repasar los requisitos y también a ver cómo podemos servir a su familia en otras maneras. Favor de comunicarse con Mari para hacer su cita de treinta minutos puede llamar por teléfono o mandar un correo electrónico. 15. Life Nights Parte de preparar para los sacramentos es estar en comunión y parte de la comunidad de otros Católicos los estudiantes de High School están requeridos de asistir una actividad que se llama Life Night cada semestre. Uno entre octubre diciembre y el otro enero a abril. Localidades son variadas.
