Este manual contiene todas las indicaciones necesarias para manejar su nuevo Generador de tonos y probador de cables CAT5/6. 3 1. CARACTERÍSTICAS El generador de tonos ( pollo ) y probador de cables de red es un equipo que conjuga en uno solo dos funciones principales para la construcción de redes, permitiendo la identifi cación y confi guración de cables de red para un correcto mapeo de sus instalaciones y redes LAN. También puede ser usado para identifi car y localizar cualquier otro tipo de cable en instalaciones en las cuales no se tiene el mapeo, ya sean cables telefónicos, de datos o incluso eléctricos (sin energía). 2. CONTROLES Transmisor 1. Entrada para cable RJ45: Útil para probar cables de red UTP/STP. 2. Indicador LED de detección de cable y estado STATUS 3. Botón de cambio de función 4. Interruptor de encendido y cambio de función (SCAN/OFF/TEST) 5. Indicador LED de prueba del cable VERIFY 6. Indicadores LED de mapeo 7. Cable RJ11: Para probar línea telefónica. 8.Cables con caimanes rojo y negro. Para probar cables de telecomunicaciones. No conecte a un cable vivo con más de 14 V CA o 10 V CD. 3

4 Interruptor de encendido y función TEST: Prueba de cable, mapeo y conexión/cortocircuito. SCAN: Emitir tono para encontrar cable. OFF: Apagado Botón encendido y cambio de función Interruptor de encendido y cambio de función en posición TEST : SCAN OFF TEST G STATUS - Presione el botón de cambio de función brevemente para cambiar la velocidad de la exploración de lento a rápido. - Para probar un cable de telecomunicaciones abierto o en cortocircuito, presione el botón de cambio de función durante 2 segundos, hasta que el LED VERIFY deje de parpadear y se quede encendido. - Conecte los caimanes a los extremos de un cable para probar si la resistencia es alta o baja; según el brillo del LED número 1, más brillante signifi ca resistencia baja, de lo contrario, la resistencia es alta. 4

5 Interruptor de encendido y función en posición SCAN : 1 STATUS - Pulse el botón de cambio de función para cambiar la frecuencia de búsqueda de cable de simple a doble y viceversa SCAN OFF TEST 7 8 G - Mantenga presionado el botón de cambio de función durante 2 segundos, cuando el LED VERIFY se encienda, podrá realizar la prueba de polaridad DC. Conecte el caimán rojo al cable positivo y el negro cable al negativo, el LED VERIFY se encenderá de color rojo. Si la polaridad está invertida, el LED se encenderá de color verde. Indicador de mapeo de cable Cuando se hace mapeo de cable o se conecta a un equipo de telecomunicaciones para comprobar el estado de conexión, los LEDs 1 a 8 se encenderán en orden. El LED G indica que el conductor blindado está conectado o que no hay conexión SCAN OFF STATUS LED indicador para verificar y encontrar cable. Para buscar y verifi car alambre o cable. Botón de prueba Mapeo de cable Para probar cables Cat3 y cables UTP/STP/SFTP Cat5 Cat5e Cat6, conecte ambas terminales RJ-45 o RJ-11/12 al transmisor y receptor, ponga el interruptor de encendido y función en la posición TEST, el LED VERIFY parpadeará y empezará a procesar la asignación de cable. Use el botón de cambio de función para cambiar la velocidad de exploración. Directo: Todos los conductores 1 ~ 8/S del cable UTP/STP están conectados, los LEDs 1 ~ 8/G se encenderán en orden tanto en el transmisor como en el receptor. El LED G indica conexión a la malla o sin conexión. Crossover: Los conductores 1 ~ 8/S del cable UTP/STP están conectados, los LEDs 1 ~ 8/G tanto del transmisor como del receptor se encenderán en orden, la secuencia de los indicadores 1 ~ 8/G no será la misma que en el receptor. 6 Sin conexión: Parte de los conductores 1 ~ 8/S del cable UTP/STP no están conectados, los LEDs tanto en el transmisor como en el receptor 1 ~ 8/G relacionados con estos conductores no encienden; los otros LEDs se iluminarán en orden.

7 Corto: Los conductores 1 ~ 8/S del cable UTP/STP están todos conectados, los LEDs 1 ~ 8/G en el transmisor se encienden en orden, pero los correspondientes en el receptor no; los demás se encienden en orden. Mapeo de cable de telecomunicaciones CAT3 6P6C Los LEDs 2 ~ 7 se encenderán y los demás deberán permanecer apagados. 6P4C Los LEDs 3 ~ 6 se encenderán y los demás deberán permanecer apagados. 6P2C Los LEDs 4 y 5 se encenderán y los demás deberán permanecer apagados. Para la indicación de estado del cable de telecomunicaciones CAT3: crossover, conexión o corto, consulte las instrucciones de la función mapeo de cable. Prueba del cable con equipos de conmutación 1. Use un cable UTP/STP. Conecte una terminal al transmisor, la otra terminal al equipo de conmutación. 2. Coloque el interruptor encendido y cambio de función en la posición TEST, los LEDs 1 ~ 8 LED del transmisor se encenderán en orden, indicando qué conductores están conectados, los LEDs relacionados con los conductores se apagarán si no hay conexión. Tenga en cuenta que esta función sólo es para probar con el equipo conectado, no puede verificar cable cruzado o en corto. Encontrar cable 1. Conecte el transmisor al cable de prueba, puede elegir RJ-11, caimán o RJ45 según el tipo de cable a probar. 7

8 2. Coloque el interruptor de encendido y cambio de función en la posición SCAN, el transmisor emitirá un tono de frecuencia dual. Si quiere cambiar a frecuencia simple, presione el botón de cambio de función. OFF ON 1 2 STATUS SCAN OFF 6 TEST 7 8 G 3. Mantenga presionado el botón de prueba y ponga la sonda lo más cerca posible al cable o a la pared que contiene al cable. La bocina sonará cuando la sonda de prueba esté cerca del cable probado (el indicador de la señal también se iluminará). Si realiza la prueba a equipos de conmutación y el receptor suena cerca de 2 o 3 cables, necesitará encontrar la señal más clara. Es probable que en equipos de conmutación la señal tenga interferencia debido a la señal de red. De ser posible, apague estos equipos. Pruebas de conexión/cortocircuito de cables de telecomunicaciones Deslice el interruptor de encendido y cambio de función a la posición TEST y presione el botón de prueba por 2 segundos. El LED VERIFY se iluminará. Conecte los caimanes a las terminales del enchufe RJ-11 del cable de prueba. 8

9 El LED 1 Se encenderá si los cables están conectados, y se apagará si los cables están abiertos. El brillo del LED indica la resistencia de los cables; si se ilumina intensamente indica baja resistencia, apagado indica alta resistencia. Prueba de polaridad de línea telefónica 1. Coloque el interruptor de encendido y cambio de función en la posición SCAN, presione el botón TEST y espere 2 segundos. El LED STATUS se apagará y VERIFY se encenderá al mismo tiempo. 2. Conecte los caimanes a los dos hilos y enchufe el cable de prueba al cable RJ Conecte el caimán rojo al cable positivo y el negro al negativo. Si el LED VERIFY se enciende de color rojo la conexión es normal, si la conexión es inversa se encenderá de color verde. LED de iluminación: Si el lugar de trabajo es oscuro, encienda el LED de iluminación. Auricular: Si el ambiente de trabajo es ruidoso, use audífonos para que el sonido sea más claro. Indicador de batería baja 1. Coloque el interruptor de encendido y cambio de función en la posición TEST. Si los LEDs STATUS y VERIFY parpadean al mismo tiempo, el voltaje de la batería es inferior a 6 V y necesitará cambiarla. Cuando se realiza cualquier prueba y el LED indicador está apagado o el volumen del sonido es bajo, reemplace la batería. 9

10 Reemplazo de la batería 1. Quite la tapa del compartimento de las pilas. 2. Coloque una batería con carga teniendo en cuenta la polaridad. 3. Vuelva a colocar la tapa. 3. PROBLEMAS Y SOLUCIONES 10 Problema No recibe tono para encontrar cable Al realizar pruebas con equipos de conmutación, no se percibe el tono para encontrar cable La lectura de los LEDs de mapeo es incorrecta Solución Revise las pilas o la conexión. Confi rme que el interruptor de encendido y cambio de función está en la posición SCAN. El probador está dañado; póngase en contacto con el distribuidor. Es probable que haya interferencia de la señal de red. Apague el equipo de conmutación. LED dañado, contacte al distribuidor. Revise la conexión.

Los gastos de transportación serán cubiertos por el proveedor. 3.- El tiempo de reparación en ningún caso será mayor a 30 días, contados a partir de la recepción del producto en cualquiera de los sitios donde pueda hacerse efectiva la garantía. 4.- El lugar donde puede adquirir partes, componentes, consumibles y accesorios, así como hacer válida esta garantía es en cualquiera de las direcciones mencionadas posteriormente. This manual includes all the feature operations and troubleshooting necessary to install and operate your new Steren s Tone generator and CAT5/6 cable tester. 15 1. HIGHLIGHTS The tone generator and Cat5/6 cable tester is a perfect device for network installation, allowing cable identifi cation and confi guration for best LAN mapping installations. It can be used to identify and locate any other kind of cable into installations where mapping is not required, even phone, data or electrical cables (without energy). 2. CONTROLS Transmitter 1. OFF: Shut down Power and change function button Power and function button TEST : SCAN OFF TEST G STATUS - Press the change function button briefl y to change the speed from slow to fast scanning. - Press the function button for 2 seconds, until the VERIFY LED stops fl ashing and stays on. You can test open/shorted telecom cable. - By connecting the alligators to the wire ends, you can test if the resistance is high or low according to the brightness of the number 1 LED, brighter means low resistance, otherwise, the resistance is high. 4

17 Power switch in SCAN position: - Press the function button to change the search cable frequency from simple to double and vice versa. - Hold the function button for 2 seconds, when LED VERIFY turns on, you can run the DC polarity test. Connect the red alligator to the positive wire and the black to the negative wire, the VERIFY LED will light red. If the polarity is reversed, the LED will turn green SCAN OFF TEST G STATUS Mapping cable indicator When cable mapping or connecting to a switch equipment to check the connection status, the LEDs 1 to 8 will turn on in order. Test button Cable mapping To test UTP/STP/SFTP Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat3 cables, connect both terminals RJ-45 or RJ-11/12 to the transmitter and receiver, set the power and function switch to the TEST position, the VERIFY LED will blink, and will begin to process cable allocation. Use the function button to change the scanning speed. Direct: all 1 ~ 8/S conductors of the UTP/STP cable are connected, the LEDs 1 ~ 8/G light up in order both the transmitter and the receiver. The G LED indicates connection to the mesh or no connection. Crossover: all cable conductors 1 ~ 8/S of the UTP/STP cable are connected, the LEDs 1 ~ 8/G both the transmitter and the receiver will light up in order, the sequence of the indicators 1 ~ 8/G will not be the same as that on the receiver. 6 Offline: motorists 1 ~ 8/S of the UTP/STP cable are not connected, the LEDs both the transmitter and the receiver 1 ~ 8/G related to these drivers not light; the other LEDs will illuminate in order.

19 Short: all conductors 1 ~ 8/S of the UTP/STP cable are connected, the LEDs 1 ~ 8/G in the transmitter light in order, but the corresponding receiver won t, others light in order. Mapping of telecommunications CAT3 cable 6P6C LEDs 2 ~ 7 will ignite and others must remain turned off. 6P4C LEDs 3 ~ 6 will light up and the others must remain turned off. 6P2C 4 and 5 LEDs will light up and the others must remain turned off. For the telecommunications CAT3 cable status indicator: crossover, connection or short, refer to the instructions of the mapping of cable function. Switch equipment cable test 1. Use a UTP/STP cable. Connect a terminal to the transmitter, the other terminal to switching equipment. 2. Place the power and function switch in the TEST position, the LEDs 1 ~ 8 LED on transmitter will light up in the order indicating which drivers are connected, the LEDs related drivers will turn off if there is no connection. Note that this function is only for testing with the connected equipment, cannot verify crossover or shorted cable. Find cable 1. Connect the transmitter to test cable, you can choose RJ-11, alligator or RJ45 cable to test. 7

20 2. Place the power and function switch on the SCAN position, the transmitter will emit a dual frequency tone. If you want to change to single-frequency, press the function button. OFF ON 3. Press and hold the test button and place the probe closer to cable or wall containing the cable. The speaker will sound when test probe is close to proven cable (signal indicator also lights up). If you perform the test switching equipment, and receiver sound near 2 or 3 wires, you need to fi nd the clearest signal. It probably be switching equipment signal interference due to network. If possible, turn off these devices SCAN OFF TEST G STATUS Connection/telecommunication cables short tests Slide the power and switch to the TEST position change and press the test button for 2 seconds. The VERIFY LED will illuminate. Connect the Caymans to test cable RJ-11 plug terminals. 8

21 The 1 LED will illuminate if the cables are connected, and will shut down if the cables are open. The brightness of the LED indicates the wire resistance, if lights strong indicates low resistance, off indicates high resistance. Telephone line polarity test 1. Place the power and function switch on the SCAN position, press the TEST button and wait 2 seconds. The STATUS LED will turn off and VERIFY will turn on at the same time. 2. Plug the alligators to the two wires on the RJ-11 cable connector. 3. Connect the black and Red alligator to the positive wire to the negative. If the LED VERIFY light red then connection is normal, if the connection is reverse it will turn green. LED lighting: If the workplace is dark, turn on LED lighting. Handset: If the work environment is loud, use a headset to make the sound clearer. Low battery indicator 1. Place the power and function switch in the TEST position. If the STATUS and VERIFY LEDs fl ash at the same time, it indicates the battery voltage is less than 6V, change it. If you are testing, and the LED indicator is off or the sound volume is low, replace the battery. 9

22 Battery replacement 1. Remove the lid of the battery compartment 2. Place a battery with a charged one taking care of polarity 3. Replace the cover 3. TROUBLESHOOTING 10 Trouble Cannot receive tone to fi nd cable Tests with switching equipment, cannot be perceived tone to fi nd cable Reading the LEDs of mapping is incorrect Solution Check the batteries or connection. Confi rm that the power and function switch is set to SCAN. Tester is damaged, contact the dealer. It is likely that there is interference from the network signal. Turn off the switching equipment. LED is damaged, contact the dealer. Check connection.
