Please have homework 2A-1/2A-4 (Vocabulary) ready to turn in. I will collect it shortly. Campanero (4) Te preparas rápidamente o lentamente para ir a la escuela? Contesta las preguntas, siguiendo el ejemplo. Ejemplo: A Cuánto tiempo necesitas para ducharte? B Me ducho rápidamente. Necesito sólo dos minutos. o: Me ducho lentamente. Necesito 20 minutos. 1. Cuánto tiempo necesitas para vestirte? 2. Cuánto tiempo necesitas para cepillarte los dientes? 3. Cuánto tiempo necesitas para arreglarte el pelo?
Go over 1. Capítulo: 2A, Cómo te preparas? 2. Objetivo(s): Learn to use reflexive verbs.
Vocabulary Drill pedir prestado, -a (a) el cepillo el cinturón, pl. los cinturones la ducha las joyas (de oro, de plata) los labios
Now for some vocabulary practice 1.Let s do a flashcard activity with the reflexive verb vocabulary (repeat, either/or, yes/no). 2. Let s play the slapping card game (groups of 3). Las reglas: slap only one card, hands close to body Play 3 rounds; keep a total; highest total wins Distribuir los materiales: NO NOTES!
Vamos a limpiar: Make sure there are 12 cards Clip them together Winners bring me the set of cards The rest of you return to your seat promptly
Reflexive Verbs Por ejemplo: secarse means to dry oneself. To say that people do something to or for themselves, you use reflexive verbs. Washing one s hands and brushing one s hair are reflexive actions because the person doing the action also receives the action. You know that a verb is reflexive if its infinitive form ends with the letters se.
Reflexive Pronouns Reflexive verbs are conjugated like all other verbs, with the addition of a reflexive pronoun The reflexive pronouns in Spanish are me, te, se, nos, & os. Each pronoun corresponds to a different subject. (yo) me= myself (nosotros/as) nos= ourselves (tú) te= yourself (vosotros/as) os (él/ella/ud.) se= himself/herself yourself(formal) (ellos/ellas/uds.) se= themselves yourselves
Conjugating Reflexive Verbs So, to conjugate a reflexive verb in Spanish... b. Place reflexive pronoun before the conjugated verb. (Yo) me seco i.e: Yo (secarse) con una toalla después de bañarme. 1. Take out the se from the end secarse secarse secar 2. Decide if it s a regular -ar, -er, or ir verb, and conjugate it to match the subject. (Be careful with irregular verbs). Yo secar Yo secar Yo seco 3. a. Determine which reflexive pronoun to use (Yo = me)
Conjugating Reflexive Verbs Complete answer: Yo me seco con una toalla después de bañarme. I dry myself with a towel after bathing myself/taking a bath.
Please copy Conjugating Reflexive Verbs Secarse- to dry (oneself) (yo) me seco (nosotros/as) nos secamos (tú) te secas (vosotros/as) os secáis (Ud./él/ella) se seca (Uds./ellos/ellas) se secan Note: The verb conjugations/endings not only match the subject pronouns, but also the reflexive pronouns. All 3 must match!
Be careful with the reflexive verbs that have stem changes! acostarse (o ue) Me acuesto. desperstarse (e ie) Me despierto. vestirse (e i) Me visto.
Reflexive vs. Non-reflexive Verbs Some verbs have both reflexive and non-reflexive forms and uses. A verb is used in its non-reflexive form if the action is being done to someone or something else. Ejemplo: Lavar vs. lavarse Non-reflexive: Reflexive: Lavo el coche a menudo. I wash the car often. Me lavo el pelo todos los días. I wash my hair everyday.
Please copy the bolded areas Location of Reflexive Pronouns If there is a second verb, you can put reflexive pronouns before the conjugated verb or you can attach them to the end of the infinitive. In each of the following examples, both sentences have the same meaning: Me voy a duchar. = Voy a ducharme. I am going to shower (myself). Te tienes que vestir para la fiesta. = Tienes que vestirte para la fiesta. You have to get dressed for the party.
Reflexive Verbs & Definite Articles When you use a reflexive verb with parts of the body or clothing, use the definite article (el, la, los, or las), and not possessive pronouns (mi/mis, tu/tus, su/sus, etc.). Siempre te pintas las uñas? Do you always polish your nails? Felipe se pone los zapatos. Felipe puts on his shoes.
Please copy the bolded areas Reflexive Verbs & Prepositions In Spanish, you use the infinitive after a preposition like de even if an infinitive is not used in English, and you attach the reflexive pronoun to the infinitive while matching the pronoun to the subject. Generalmente me pongo loción en la cara después de afeitarme. I usually put lotion on my face after shaving (myself).
To summarize Reflexive Verbs Let s watch a GramActiva video (3:15 minutes)???
