Countable Nouns Countable & Uncountable nouns Countable nouns are for things we can count using numbers. They have a singular and a plural form. The singular form can use the determiner "a" or "an". If you want to ask about the quantity of a countable noun, you ask "How many?" combined with the plural countable noun. For example: You can say There is ONE BOTTLE There are TWO PENS There is A CAR. Countable nouns can be singular (= one) or plural (two or more) Singular: a car the car my car etc. Plural: cars two cars the cars some cars many cars etc. Primera Edición
2 You can t use the singular (car/ bottle/ key etc) alone. You need a/an E.g. We can t get into the house without a key (not without key) Uncountable Nouns Uncountable nouns are for the things that we cannot count with numbers. They may be the names for abstract ideas or qualities or for physical objects that are too small or too amorphous to be counted (liquids, powders, gases, etc.). Uncountable nouns are used with a singular verb. They usually do not have a plural form. For example: water (agua), air (aire), rice (arroz), money (dinero), music (música) etc. You can t say: one/ two/ three + uncountable noun one MONEY You can t use: a/an + uncountable noun one MONEY You have to say: MONEY THE MONEY MY MONEY SOME MONEY MUCH MONEY E.g. I ve got some money. There isn t much money in the box. Money isn t everything. But you can say a piece of / a bottle of etc. + uncountable noun: A bottle of water A bowl of rice A bar of chocolate A carton of milk A piece of cheese A piece of music A bottle of perfume A cup of coffee A game of tennis Primera Edición
