5 Affirmative Tú Commands Whenever you want to tell your friends, family, peers or pets to do something, you have to use an affirmative tú command. Using them is easy though- for the regular verbs, you just use the él/ella/usted form of the present tense, which you already know. Infinitive Present tense: él/ella/usted Affirmative tú command nadar nada Nada! comer come Come! vivir vive Vive! There are eight irregular tú command verbs: Decir- di salir- sal hacer- haz ser- sé Venir- ven tener- ten poner- pon ir- ve Directions: You live in a very unconventional house in Argentina. In the house, the dog does all the chores. Command the dog to do the following chores. Example: Saca la basura! DUST! 5. MAKE THE BED!
6 The Present Progressive When you want to highlight that an action is going on IN THIS MOMENT, you need to use the present progressive: Ex. Yo estoy lavando los platos. I am washing the dishes (right now). Susana está pasando la aspiradora. Susana is vacuuming (right now). To form the present progressive tense, you need two parts, 1) a form of estar and 2) a present participle. You form the present participle by dropping the ending of an infinitive verb and adding ando to an ar verb and iendo to an er or ir verb. ESTOY + ESTÁS + ESTÁ + ESTAMOS + ESTÁN + There are some irregular verbs in this tense- most notably, leer. Leer - leyendo Now you try it: translate these sentences. 1. We are feeding the dog. 2. You (familiar, singular) are setting the table. 3. I am helping in the basement. 4. You guys (ustedes) are making the beds.
7 Cuántos Errores?! There is a mistake in each of the sentences below, read each sentence, find the error and rewrite the sentence in the space provided. 1. Paco y yo lavan los platos. 2. Nosotros puedemos pasar la aspiradora. 3. Ahora, los Ramirez son contentos en su casa. 4. José estoy recibiendo la cuenta del camarero. 5.
