1 Lesson 51: before, after, while, since Lección 51: antes, después, mientras, desde Reading (Lectura) Before you go to the beach, call your mother. ( Antes de que vayas a la playa, llama a tu madre ) We traveled to Japan before traveling to Canada. ( Viajamos a Japón antes de viajar a Canadá ) Brush your teeth before you go to bed. ( Cepíllate los dientes antes de ir a la cama ) I will buy that cellphone after I sell the old one. (Voy a comprar ese celular después de que venda el viejo.) After I drank coffee, my headache stopped. ( Después de que tomé café, mi dolor de cabeza se detuvo ) After we came home, I cooked pasta for dinner. ( Después de regresamos a casa, cociné pasta para la cena ) 1
2 Someone called while you were out. ( Alguien llamó mientras estabas fuera ) While I was talking on the phone, the dogs were barking. 3 Grammar focus (Enfoque gramatical) Before, after, while y since son también conjunctions, cuya función es combiner 2 frases o cláusulas. Before indica que una acción toma lugar más temprano que otra acción. After indica que un evento toma lugar más tarde que otro evento. While indica que 2 acciones suceden en el mismo tiempo. Since indica una razón o causa de algo a suceder, o el punto de comienzo de una acción. E.g.)I will buy a new smartphone before I sell the old one. (Voy a comprar um nuevo smartphone antes de vender el viejo.) I will buy a new smartphone after I sell the old one. (Voy a comprar um nuevo smartphone después de vender el viejo.) I was browsing websites while I was working. (Estaba navegando en sitios web cuando estaba trabajando.) I will buy a new smartphone since I sold the old one. (Voy a comprar um nuevo smartphone desde que ya vendí el viejo.) 3
