Name:... Form... Teacher:... SPANISH SUMMER EXAM REVISION BOOKLET Year 7
This revision booklet is meant for revision in class and some of the work will be set for prep. Therefore, please do not go ahead and complete tasks unless you have specifically been asked to do so by your teacher. Revision of tasks already completed in class and/or for prep is obviously fine and encouraged. 1
Year 7 Spanish summer exam revision The summer exam will cover topics and grammar that we have met over the past year. In this booklet, you will find revision exercises to revise the following grammar: GRAMMAR o The verb ir (to go) in the present tense (page 80) o How to say where you are going (al / a la) (pages ) o Saying what you love / like / hate doing (pages ) o Saying what you do regular verb endings in the present tense (page 133) o Saying what you are going to do (pages ) o Jugar al and practicar el/la with sports (pages ) o Adjective agreement (bonito/bonita) (page 131) The following vocabulary lists will need to be revised thoroughly: VOCABULARY o Sports (list 15) o Daily routine (lists 6 + 7) o Weather (list 14) o Places in town (lists 8, ) o Free time activities (list 16) 2
The verb ir (to go) and how to say to the The verb ir The verb to go in Spanish is irregular and has to be learnt by heart. = to go (yo) (tú) (él/ella) (nosotros) (vosotros) (ellos/ellas) How to say to the The Word for to in Spanish is a but it can change when next to the masculine word for the so we have to be careful. a + el = a + la = PRACTICE SENTENCES 1. I am going to the beach 2. We are going to the stadium 3. They are going to the church 4. My sister is going to the park 5. My friends are going to the shopping centre = 6. My brother and I are going to the bullring = 7. 3
Saying what you do and what you like doing Saying what you do in your free time To say what we do in our free time, we take the infinitive of the verb (leer = to read, cocinar = to cook etc), chop off the last two letters and replace them with the letter o. For example: I read = leo and I cook = cocino PRACTICE SENTENCES 1. I dance = 2. I listen = 3. I go out = 4. I sing = 5. I go = 6. I do/make = Saying what you like/don t like doing After using a phrase like me gusta (I like), you need to use the infinitive of the verb which is the part that ends in ar, er, or ir. For example: I like singing = me gusta cantar and I hate dancing = detesto bailar PRACTICE SENTENCES 1. I don t like cooking 2. I really like going out 3. I love watching TV 4. I really don t like going shopping 5. I quite like playing tennis 4
Important vocabulary Verbs for talking about free time leer (un libro) tocar (la guitarra) hablar (por) teléfono cantar cocinar escuchar (música) bailar *hacer (los deberes) *jugar (al fútbol) *salir (con mis amigos) *ir (de compras) *ver (la televisión) *dormir = to read a book *These verbs all have irregular I forms, find out what they are and write them down at the end of the line Phrases for giving opinions Me encanta Me gusta mucho Me gusta Me gusta bastante No me gusta No me gusta nada Odio / Detesto 5
Saying what you are going to do and talking about sport Saying what you are going to do To say what we are going to do, we use the present tense of the verb ir (to go), followed by the word a followed by an infinitive (jugar, comer etc). For example: I am going to dance = voy a bailar and we are going to sing = vamos a cantar PRACTICE SENTENCES 1. he is going to read a book _ 2. they are going to watch TV _ 3. you (s) are going to play tennis _ 4. I am going to listen to music _ 5. she is going to do her homework _ Talking about sport In Spanish we use two verbs when talking about sports. Ball sports use the verb jugar (al) while other sports use the verb practicar (el/la). It is very important to learn which verb each sport uses and whether it will be followed by al, el or la. For example: I play football = juego al fútbol and I go sailing = practico la vela PRACTICE SENTENCES 1. I go cycling _ 2. I do gymnastics _ 3. I play basketball _ 4. I go skating _ 5. I play volleyball _ 6
Practising my verbs Translate the following short sentences into Spanish, thinking carefully about each verb and using your notes to help you. 1. I am going to read a book.. 2. I like reading a book.. 3. I read a book.. 4. I play the guitar.. 5. We are going to play the guitar.. 6. I love playing the guitar.. 7. I do* my homework.. 8. I hate doing my homework.. 9. 9 When do we use the present tense? The present tense: Regular verbs for something that happens regularly/usually (Everyday I play football) for something that is happening now (We live in London) for saying what things are like (The beach is beautiful) How do we form the present tense for regular verbs? To form the present tense for regular -ar / -er / -ir verbs, we remove the -ar / -er / - ir from the end of the verb and add the following endings: -ar verbs (like hablar to speak) yo (I) habl o (I speak) tú (you sing.) habl as (you speak) él/ella (he/she/it) habl a (he/she/it speaks) nosotros (we) habl amos (we speak) vosotros (you plur.) habl áis (you speak) ellos/ellas (they) habl an (they speak) -er verbs (like comer - to eat) yo (I) com o (I eat) tú (you sing.) com es (you eat) él/ella (he/she/it) com e (he/she/it eats) nosotros (we) com emos (we eat) vosotros (you plur.) com éis (you eat) ellos/ellas (they) com en (they eat) -ir verbs (like vivir to live) yo (I) viv o (I live) tú (you sing.) viv es (you live) él/ella (he/she) viv e (he/she/it lives) nosotros (we) viv imos (we live) vosotros (you plur.) viv ís (you live) ellos/ellas (they) viv en (they live) 8
