A copy of the randomized word bank located at the end of this lesson. Document camera with Light-Pro projector. Whiteboard and dry erase markers. Learning Plan PREPARATION: 0. Print the sample sorted packing list and the randomized word bank located at the end of this lesson. 0. Check with the classroom teacher to see if a document camera and Light-Pro projector are available in the classroom. Otherwise, you will need to check one out from the school library. INTRODUCTION: [10 MINUTES] 1. Welcome the students to Spanish class. 2. Explain the format of today s activity. Tell the students that you will be talking about different vacations and what is needed to pack for each type of vacation. The sorted packing list provides an example of possible student responses. 3. Go over the randomized word bank with the students; some of the vocabulary is new and some is review. Pronounce each word and have the students repeat after you. You can either write the words on the whiteboard as you say them or use the attached list with the

3 FIFTH GRADE, LESSON 21 VACATIONS 3 document camera or overhead projector. The students are going to use these words for the packing activity. QUE PONGO EN LA MALETA: [20 MINUTES] 4. Write the following phrases on the whiteboard: A dónde vas? (Where are you going?) Yo voy a (I am going to ) Cuándo? (When?) En (In.) Qué pones en la maleta? (What do you put in the suitcase?) Yo pongo. (I put ) 5. Have the students practice the phrases and translate them. 6. Ask for a student volunteer to choose a destination, a season, and at least five items to put in their suitcase if they were going to this location. The goal is to cover all the seasons, destinations, and vocabulary items. For example: A dónde vas? Yo voy a la ciudad. Cuándo? En primavera Qué pones en la maleta? Yo pongo la cámara fotográfica, el paraguas, el pase de museos, el mapa y la guía de la ciudad. 7. Continue doing this activity with different students until you run out of time. 8. Say adiós to the students and thank them for participating.
